But by the time I explained that, his colleagues had realized the camera was in the little cubbyhole under my elbow. The second man grabbed me by the throat and pulled me back so the woman could reach in and grab my camera.
In their five-minute encounter with me, the protesters had broken several laws -- interfering with traffic, assault, robbery and extortion among them. Throughout the incident, an OPP officer, perhaps 40 metres away, watched and did nothing. I suppose the one-eyed man was right when he said the protesters were operating with the sanction of the police.
There is no excuse for this behaviour, I don't care who you are.
Perhaps he should have shot them with a high-powered rifle rather than a camera. These natives have gone way overboard. We pay the taxes so let's do something about this, NOW!
If the story is accurate (I’ll accept as such) then I applaud the reporter’s basic journalistic nature to report his harassers’ (as it it’s printed, they appear like the typical lawless, ignorant, opportunistic pieces of dole-sucking trash) actions and present another angle on this standoff.
The irony is that these very thugs that man these barricades hide behind the “White Man’s Law” when it suits them, take the “White Man’s Money” when it pleases them, yet decry the “White Man’s Law” when it acts against them. They’re disingenuous, uncivilized radicals and I’d like to know why they think alleged miscarriages of justice (like land claims) should be met with little resistance when they’re the alleged victim but when they commit flagrant acts of lawlessness everyone should sympathize with their plight. I’d like to see the reaction of someone in Caledonia when the natives come to push their historically tenuous claim on an existing property. I wonder if they’d sympathize with their plight.
Some wag asked if our Good liberal photographer is still a Good liberal.
Definately unnaceptable.
Sort of a paralell between the Muslems enclaves and these millitant indian bands.
Chilling, absolutely chilling. I will never drive through an Indian Reserve again without the hackles on the back of my neck rising! These situations are just right out of control. I wouldn't believe this could happen anywhere in Canada in the twenty-first century. Unbelievable!
I don't even Donny will be able to uphold their response. Sooner or later those caledonians natives will push us too far and then they will realize their mistake. If they want to continue to act like that then we should start by withdrawing all funding to that particular group and any others that pursue grossly illegal responses such as that. Perhaps if they had to go out and get jobs they wouldn't have so much free time on their hands.
Having the odd chum who is in the OPP it's very obvious why nobody is arresting anybody in Caledonia.
One word: Ipperwash.
No OPP Commander is going to authorise any action that is not sanctioned by the McGuinty Provincial Liberals who have been persecuting the OPP guys who were involved in Ipperwash in 1995.
The Libs have backed themselves in a corner and are just hoping it will all go away. In the mean time the OPP just look impotent.
If you were an OPP cop would you stick your neck out to enforce the laws of Canada when you know you will get nil support from the Government?
Notice how quiet Gwen Boniface is on this? She was promoted mainly because of her 1st Nations contacts.

Other than that. I agree that something must be done. They should be accountable for their actions like anybody else.
Why didn't this person simply role his window back up and lock his doors and drive away?
That's a good question.
