North Korea warned the world Friday there would be no softening of its position toward South Korea's government after Kim Jong Il's death as Pyongyang strengthened his son and heir's authority with a new title: Great Leader.

True an actually I woul expect a bit harder line as Kim Jung Un woul want to do something to show he is as much of a hardliner than his father.

If his people were ever to understand the truth about him what they did to Kaddafy would be merciful compared to what they would do with him. He would be lucky to "only" have a bayonet shoved up his ass and his head kicked in.

I dont know about the latter part, if there was a civil war in North Korea it would be long and very bloody.

The irony is that S Korea and China need to have N Korea somewhat succeed as they don't want to get swamped with refugees.

Eggsackly. But the refugees aren't the main problem, but that each doesn't want the other to take over NK.

Wouldn't mind see China take responsibility for NK, after all if it wasn't for the intervention of China the UN would have easily defeated North Korea and we would be looking at a unified Korea today.

Responsibility means take over. I don't think SK or the US would be very glad to see that.

If it were possible for SK to absorb NK I'd suggest that. The economic disparity between the two countries is far too huge and NK would be a massive dead weight on the economy of SK.

Unlike other former Stalinist dictatorships, NK stubbornly refuses to liberalize itself.

Are we going to have to deal with the nuclear blackmail 'till time eternal?

North Korea looks like it'll run itself into the ground eventually. Either that, or someone gets bored and starts pushing red buttons.
