The flags where also flown on board the NWC ships at Fort William like the schooners Canadian Fur Trader & Canadian Perserverence. The company also owned many smaller sloops which where named after fur bearing animals like the beaver,otter,mink,etc... The first ship yard built on Lake Superior was Point Aux Pins at Sault Ste Marie, Ontario in 1735 the voyageurs also built the first locks as well. I think both where destroyed by the Michigan Fensibles during the War of 1812 I find Canadian history facinating there is a lot more too Canada than people think!
