CANBERRA, Australia — Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard stumbled and was caught by a security guard as riot police helped her force a path through a crowd of rowdy protesters following a ceremony to mark Australia's national day Thursday.

Watch the video. Can you imagine Harper having to run for his motorcade like that?

Had that happened in the USA the Secret Service would've slaughtered the attackers.

Yes. Despite what 1 Peg said, it was because:
Some 200 supporters of indigenous rights had surrounded a Canberra restaurant and banged its windows while Gillard and opposition leader Tony Abbott were inside officiating at an award ceremony.

We also have this topic going:
Chief Stewart Phillip warns 'an aboriginal uprising is inevitable' if Stephen Harper doesn't listen

It helps if you actually read the story.

I'm of the opinion the RCMP would never allow the PM to be chased to a motorcade.

Yes, I did read the story before I posted it, smart ass.

I was really talking to 1 Peg there. But, you really think the RCMP will start shooting because a few hundred natives are protesting where Harper is trying to get to his car? The Aussie PM was not so afraid she cowered in the restaurant, just had security help to push her way thru the mob.

In the 1960's, me and my radical buddies were able to throw burning paper airplanes at Trudeau because he only had one Mountie and a couple of handlers along to protect him as he left a speech. Different times - and maybe they're still more relaxed in Oz.

Protesting is one thing. Trying to run down the Prime Minister is another. After watching it through a few times it certainly looked as if the mob was chasing her through the bloody park.

It made her security detail look rather lax. Whether that perception is deserved or not up for debate.
