Wait until his insurance company gets involved, even with the police calling him a hero it's probably going to cost him a very large chunk of change and an increase in his rates, if his insurer us anything like ICBC.
Driving on a cell phone should have the same penalty as drunk driving because it's just as lethal. That some uncaring POS nearly slaughtered some kids in a crosswalk is a clear example of this.

Unfortunately I think you're spot on! I certainly hope that there are actually PEOPLE working there, instead of robots. The insurer should go to (after?) the 23 year old asshole. This man deserves a new Hummer, period, and definitely NOT a rate hike.

I'm sure they will have a field day with the young fellow, but I'm also pretty sure they will penalize the guy who stopped a potential deadly accident.
There are no people working at insurance companies, they are all evil soulless borgs!

Agreed, BC just brought in the law about cell phones and distracted driving, I don't know what the penalty is but it doesn't seem to have changed much, every time I'm out, walking, driving, wharever, I'll still see at least a half dozen idiots yapping away on their cells......fucking moronic idiots, welcome to the 21st century......

I often wonder how we ever survived without cell phones.

Hummer hero's insurance company waves deductible after saving children
Darrell Krushelnicki is now being labelled as the hummer hero — and his insurance company seems to think so too.
Intact Insurance will not be charging the 46-year-old Taber native with an at-fault accident after Krushelnicki drove his Hummer into the path of a speeding car in order to prevent four children from being mowed down at a crosswalk near Bonnie Doon Mall.
The company is also waving his deductible and said it has never dealt with a case like this.
“We don’t often see people trying to throw their cars in front of other cars to save four children. It’s a dangerous precedent, but in this case I think it was the right thing to do,” said company spokeswoman Rosa Nelson who wondered what Krushelnicki’s insurance company was going to do when she first heard about the story.
“As soon as we found out it was our customer, we knew it was the right thing to do.”
Krushelnicki was stopped at the intersection of 83 Street and 84 Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Friday when he noticed four kids, aged three to 16, crossing the street at a marked crosswalk with flashing lights overhead.
All the vehicles on the road had stopped, except for a speeding car in the far lane that had a driver allegedly talking on his cell phone.
Fearing the car wouldn’t stop, Krushelnicki drove his vehicle in front of it, allowing the shaken children to walk away physically unharmed.
“I could just tell it was a bad scenario that was going to take place,” said Krushelnicki, who wasn’t injured in the crash aside from a loose tooth. He’s still waiting to hear from an adjuster about the damage to his vehicle.
The man driving the car has since been charged with dangerous driving.
City police aren’t the only ones commending Krushelnicki’s brave actions that day.
A Facebook group called Hugs for the Hummer Hero has since been started to show appreciation for Krushelnicki, who was flattered when he learned about the group.
“I am really looking forward to reading a lot of these statements,” said Krushelnicki, who is currently working in northern B.C.
“I am really impressed with the amount of support I am receiving. It really does give me a good feeling.”
Only in Edmonton.
Oh, and 23 year old moron who was on his cell doing 80+ in a 30 zone... SHAME ON YOU!
I hope you will never get your license back.
