Why bother when you consider all that could happen if you got caught hacking such a site if all you are going to do is put the info out so that everyone affected can change theirs?
At least the Target hackers made some money off of their efforts.
Twice now I've been with a company that lost my personal data to hackers. Neither time did they actually notify me of their failure so I could do anything about it.
It's one thing to be stupid and not have proper security. It's another to hide it after the fact.
