Health Canada's focus-group testing of anti-marijuana ads found parents reacted most strongly to claims that smoking too many joints can lower IQ in young people. The IQ effect has been challenged by medical researchers, but the department launched a TV a
Well, it seems to work politically, and that's all they care about.
And that's my point. It's not from the perspective of making Canadians healthier, pretty much the job of Health Canada. It's about falling in line with a political ideology, something that offends me that a party is trying to dictate it's ideology to Canadians.
When I was 12 or 13, had a friend's mother lecture us about not smoking that evil marijuana. I didn't even know what marijuana was, so I didn't pay much attention. When I was 14 I read a LIfe magazine article where the reporter said smoking pot made him see an orange like he was holding the sun in his hands. Right there I knew it was for me, and my friend's mother's warning had no relevance.
People warning me about stuff just seemed to make me want to find out what the fuss was about. It's amazing that I didn't die.
After all these years I've revised my opinion of Harper to decent/not bad but the Conservative policy on marijuana is so fucking far out of touch they deserve to lose the next election on that issue alone.
These ads always made me want to try new things when I was a kid.
Explains a fair bit.
It's just another example of the Conservatives ignoring science in favour of ideology. Researchers doubt any link exists, but it polls well, so go and do it anyhow.
Yet if you find anyone that's been smoking dope since they were a teenager, the affects are almost immediately obvious....but it's all scare tactics about this harmless drug.
the thing is, this sort of ad just backfires. Gets the ignorant parents all hyped up, but what are they going to do about it? The kids know this is bullshit, the parents preaching to them will just make them more distrustful of the parents.

When I was 11, I remember beliving grow ops were as volitile as meth labs.
When I was 14 I was smoked up by irresponsible adults. By then, all the dumb kids knew it wouldn't kill us.
Until I was 16 though I prefered to get drunk, which has probably been more damaging to my fragile young mind.
I'm also totally sure my IQ is in the shitter, because it's not like I've spent all my drunk and stoned years of youth debating advanced political theories, complex current events, and controversial social issues.
I like that they've given up on convincing kids and instead are going after dumb sheltered parents. Makes me chuckle, like those anti-piracy ads. Really helps initiate the young in the bullshit campaign they constantly have levied against them.

This says an awful lot about your level of discernment.

Which part makes me obvious? I'm curious. The leftism, I assume? Seems to be pretty tame then.

You were the logic-learned man you are today when you were 14? Incredible! I wish.
