Have to love Ralph Goodale; who received exactly how many votes to get in his position? A man who wanted to try and control the government not via direct voter influence, but via the creation of a coalition government. I communicated with this loyal, lapdog politician and he is either incompetent or unwilling to correct errors that his keystone cops at the RCMP and CSIS have created.
"Asked how the United States feels about Canadian MPs? ability to keep classified secrets, Goodale said the U.S. itself doesn?t have such a great track record of keeping secrets.
?The record of Canada in this regard is actually far better than the record of the United States. Their security process is an elaborate one ?and it frequently creates headlines,? said Goodale."
Well, appears he doesn't want to have any information leaked about say, attempts to misrepresent and radicalize citizens at U.S corporations. Or, particular "journalists" at CBC being outed as nothing more than state patsies. I would love to have a debate with him, he would blush with embarrassment at the incompetent and excessive overreach Canada has engaged in and been exposed on. None of it, in the name of democracy, security, human rights, Canadian interests or public safety.
This parliamentary oversight is needed, and I can understand wanting to maintain secrecy, but, there had better be consequences for abuses by the apparatus and not this lip service. They have done enough damage already to our reputation, don't continue the path of insulting allies intelligence with artificial oversight.
"uwish" said Goodale is a life long politician, thus he is a trained seal. I expect nothing from that idiot.
This is precisely why you should expect accounttability and actions that are consistent with Canadian "values'. I'm not even sure how to define values anymore, they have shifted and lacking in too many corners of leadership.
"uwish" said I don't, I just want to point out if this was Harper there would be the usual line of people banging the war drums. Nothing more really.
I despise secrecy in government. My views on government secrecy, whether it be Harpers or Trudeaus' or even Obamas', haven't changed. So not responding to this thread was not because I agree with Trudeaus' brand of secrecy but not Harpers' is not because I'm a 'lefty', but because I didn't feel like dealing with 'shocked'.
Incorrect assumption that the liberal/conservative {left/right} of the political scale is also synonymous with the Libertarian/Authoritarian {up/down} bias. There are many communist as well as capitalist examples of authoritarian governments.

where are all the same critics from the left that were yelling and screaming over Harper's 'secret' agenda BS not screaming here?
What makes you think the attitude that government should be accountable and not secretive is a 'left' trait?
