I can see not using the word Indian, because they aren't, but what difference does using indigenous instead of aboriginal make? CBC likely figures they did something profound, and PM Tater Tot will name a new holiday commemorating it ....with autographed photos of himself for all. Sophie will follow singing a round of Kumbaya mmmmmmhmmmm.

In 2007, the UN drafted The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples which was signed by Stephen Harper.

The changing of terms simply ensures that they are properly recognized as having the rights which are described therein.

Apparently by definition from the Merriam Webster Dictionary we're all indigenous.

    Full Definition of indigenous
    1
: produced, growing, living, or occurring naturally in a particular region or environment <indigenous plants> <the indigenous culture>

But since we're playing semantics. The CBC shouldn't be claiming the aboriginals (which means original inhabitants) are indigenous people because, it's a proven fact they came across the bearing straights millennia ago.

. Yeah, but it required more lube than they expected and it was cold so the whole works stiffened up, causing a population boom.
