    Lunacy.

All those new Liberal voters, Justine's going to need every last one of them.

Our debt from spending on all those extra Air Jordans must be up in the several trillions by now. Ah fuck, all is lost. Here's hoping that all the antibiotics stop working sooner rather than later.

I noticed the increase in car bombs outside police stations and swimming pool rapes too. Odd, that.

Give it time. It'll be the curse for your children's generation to put up with.

I have none, according to the paternity tests. I wouldn't wish this world on them if I did.

But immigrants are not the problem in any case. And most are from East and South Asia. ;) The worst today's children will have to deal with is friends with overbearing parents.

Not entirely different from the number of immigrants that came in under Harper. Are those immigrants voting Conservative?

    Immigrants can't vote.
Until they become citizens. And then they are not immigrants anymore :)

Personally, I still think immigration is a fantastic thing. What needs to change is where they go. The big cities can't keep getting bigger. Immigrants need to be steered towards the smaller cities and provinces/territories. Places like Whitehorse, Yellowknife, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg for example.

Meanwhile our local Subway has now been unable in 3 years to find a local employee who will work there.
One young Filipino couple just had their 2nd kid born in Canada. And when the time comes, half the town will sign sponsorship papers.
A new Red Apple store opened this month, half the staff is already whining and a few have quit. WAHHH they make us wear black shirts and shoes and put the cans right side up with the English side out...

Those immigrants! They're stealing all the good jobs!

Nope. It's because no matter what a sitting govt does about the numbers, it'll be a losing situation for them.
A poll from a bit back showed that about 50% of Canadians were fine with immigration numbers as they were. Around 25% wanted to see more and about the same number wanted to see less. So the problem is, no matter which direction you go, you run the risk of pissing off around 3/4 of the voting public.
And that is disastrous for Canada. We consistently let in 1% of our total population every year from all sources. Even the highly pro-immigration Europeans have said that a 1% increase every year from outside sources is unsustainable.
I've said it before and it bears repeating. There's nothing wrong with immigration,, but having mass immigration simply for the sake of having mass immigration is incredibly shortsighted not to mention pretty damn stupid. Immigration numbers should be tied to the employment rate.

Of course it would help if the govt wasn't telling various prospective immigrants that they're qualified to work in Canada in their field of expertise, only for them to wind up driving cabs or delivering pizzas because their qualifications aren't up to our standards. I mean c'mon, are they THAT desperate for new voters who aren't used to their bullshit that they're willing to fuck them around like that?

Agreed. Nothing wrong with immigration, but it should fill specific needs. Canada's needs Unfortunately many Canadians see it as a form of third world aid, never mind we often bring in people that a poor third world country has spent money educating, because we don't want to spend money on educating our own.

Then there's the laughable excuse that we need young immigrants to work to support old Canadians. Sure doesn't make sense then that the Liberals opened up the family reunification category again, so we can bring in lots of grandmas and grandpas. Many countries limit the age of immigrants accepted to 40 or so. Even then, all those young immigrants will get old and need pensions and medicare, and as soon as they come here they breed like Canadians do - ie not very much.

I'd be in favor of large numbers of immigrants if we figured out a way to send them to regions that really need them. Be we haven't figured that out, so we should sharply reduce the number of immigrants unless our economy really does start firing on all cylinders again.

You can't do that because they have the right of freedom of movement. We used to go to this deli that was run by a Danish couple. About forty-odd years ago when they first came to Canada the government made the guy take an engineering job up in Ft. McMurray. Back then the redneckism was way worse than it is now and he was completely appalled by the goonery and other misanthropic behaviour that was (is) McMurray's unfortunate trademark. The wife was about ready to join him there when he said fuck it, that he wasn't going to bring up a family in a place like that. He quit the job, they relocated to Calgary, did odd jobs around town for a decade or so, and then opened up the deli which proved so popular they were able to retire off the money they made from it. By providing for themselves in an alternate manner they avoided any potential deportation problems. Ditto for whoever shows up today. If they behave in a normal manner the government's ability to toss them for not co-operating on something like coercing them to live in a certain area or city greatly diminishes. Can't blame them for that either if the government is trying to locate them in places that suck so much even native-born Canadian citizens don't want to live there either.
