But if we cut the logs here, that means less profit when the finished goods are re-imported and sold at Home Depot and Ikea... Next thing you know, you'll be saying that we shouldn't be exporting 60% of the energy we produce and re-importing 70% of the energy we use at much higher prices. What would...

Sorry Doc, not true any more. Banting's patent was on animal derived insulin which is almost non-existant today. One Big Pharma figured out to make synthetic insulin, they started a smear campaign against animal insulin and managed to scare people (and bribe, err, lobby governments) into not using i...

Well come on, Harper cannot justify letting the Americans "help" us by doing our sovereignty patrols for us unless he can convince people we're not capable of doing it ourselves.

Interesting article. One bit caught my attention: "But some Ecuadorians worry that his real goal is to consolidate power in the presidency, as Chavez and Morales have done in Venezuela and Bolivia, AP said." Since we just finished reading how Chavez is actually doing the exact opposite - b...

Interesting - that was the overall thesis of my citizenship article!
--
Our education system has ceased to educate. Most schooling today is not education, but training. We are trained to be production units, not educated to be citizens. You likely remember the hubbub in the m...

Ah, now it all comes clear. Chavez is actually deconstructing centralized power and handing it over to the people directly. This isn't your grandfather's communism at all - where Mao or Stalin were absolute rulers. As I suspected, the substance of the article was a complete lie, created through part...

I'm suspicious of this report. So far Chavez has always been against dictatorship and now suddenly he wants to rule by presidential decree? Either the report is purposefully mis-translated or Chavez has gone off the deep end. Damned near everything I've seen in the "western" media about Ch...

They have to make travel difficult in order to dissolve our borders and absorb Canada into the US. Canada is already dead officially, just not publically. The SPP is already signed and 2/3 complete but the last third will be publically visible so the public must be brought to accept what has already...

Well, all I can say is that I'm damned glad global warming is a myth. Otherwise I'd have to take this as a sign that we're in big doodoo! Well, this and the "holes" being eaten through vast areas of Greenland's glaciers... But, Mr. Bush and Mr. Exxon and Mr. Chevron all say that global war...

We don't have to be bribed not to take sick leave - that was never said nor implied. In fact, when this new boss took over the first thing he did was compare our sick rates to the rest of the industry (public and private) and found we were already in the lowest 20%. This same boss has personally sen...

I love how the title says it is public "workers" that are spending the money - i.e. those lazy union bastards. Yet in the text it shows that its really management spending the money improperly. So after a five year accident free safety record and employee receiving a leather jacket is cons...
