Yeah - I'd say there are a number of common threads to the Tea Party and OWS, one of which is extreme displeasure with how the government is currently functioning. The Tea Party is pushing for a return to founding principles, whereas OWS pushes for a more radical shift away from the current system. ...

Any tax plan that starts with "Throw out the current tax code" is going to garner some support. Whether or not you understand all the issues involved, you know that it is not working as well as it should.

What numbskull could have thought this up? The article only mentions US Customs, and doesn't have specific names. I'm going to put this on my "probably a hoax" list until I see something else; I can't imagine any serious political support on any side for this.

I had to review a Valuing Diversity education module the other day, and saw this quote: "As diversity is increasingly viewed as a source of competitive advantage, successful companies work to hire and retain the most qualified candidates without regard for their personal characterisitics."...

This sort of protest isn't new, I've heard of similar sales to point out some of the absurdity of affirmative action and other policies in higher ed.

Do a slow increase in the retirement age until it becomes solvent. I'm planning on working until I'm 75 anyway.

And tighten up the program so it isn't a slush fund for politicians. If I have to live with this kind of social welfare, I don't want it built on a bunch of IOUs.

Anyone remember how we got the Alternative Minimum Tax? I don't think we can solve the fundamental issues with our tax code by raising rates and picking on the rich. I would like some simple fundamental principle to form the basis for the tax system, rather than a perserve hodgepodge of incentive, d...

Alternatively, why should M+W get any special legal benefits in the first place? How does it benefit the government to allow tax leniency on a M+W couple when a M and a W separately shoulder a relatively higher burden? Marriage really doesn't benefit a nation until it creates a new human child to b...

"The central conservative truth is that it is culture, not politics, that determines the success of a society."
-Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan

You can set up whatever political structure and governing system you want, but unless you have a functional society, it won't matter.

Whenever something talks about speaking in "code words" - I get a little wary. There are certainly words and phrases that convey religious meaning, specifically Christian meaning, but I hardly think they are some secret code, as the quotes from Bill Leonard seem to imply. And the "Chr...

I think the Republicans are missing an opportunity here - I believe simplification of the tax code could garner broad-based support, so if the Republicans could develop a proposal which would close loopholes and lower rates in addition to major budget cuts, they could really drive the argument. But ...
