Before I begin, I obviously haven't been on in a while, maybe a year or two, and I might mess up this quoting system so my message might be a little blurry but hopefully all goes well. Virgil wrote: Many groups were doing little and owned little at contact? I find that statement to be ignorant of th...

Many groups were doing little and owned little at contact? I find that statement to be ignorant of the truth and made in absence of any research. Give me some examples of groups who you suppose weren't doing much and owned little, and I'll enlighten you on what the were doing and what they did own. ...

Hobbema's not much different from any other reserve, except that it proves that economic development is not the answer to solving issues of social dysfunction among Aboriginals. Aboriginal peoples suffer from a number of problems in their communities, and the one that relates most closely to gang vi...

Once we clean up OUR system of governance? Pardon me, correct me if I'm wrong, my apologies and all that bullocks, but isn't the Indian Act, you know, the one that gives the Chiefs and Councillors ridiculous control over band affairs with little checks and balances, YOUR style of governement that Y...

I don't know about this whole seasonal worker thing, especially in Alberta. We have a boom right now, but when that goes away we might find our selves with an excess of workers and a shortage of jobs, and if in some way the Mexican workers get priority in that sort of a situation... See where I'm go...

Where I went to school in Saskatchewan we did have classes on Native history /culture. It wasn't mandatory but it was still offered. And from the time I was in grade four and up there was also a heavy dose of Aboriginal culture injected into the history and social studies curriculum. Whenever we we...

Actually, we are still oppressed today, how ever, the methods are often more subtle. People still speak of incorporating us into Canadian culture, our languages are still mostly lost, what we are taught in schools uses not the word "savage" but it is still mostly implied. In my school, the...

Virgil...You should do a google search for Chief Clarence Louie...You might learn something about your so called 100 year battle. You are stuck on wants rather than needs. You still believe that you are entitled to everything for nothing. You did not surrender your lands. Your forefathers did. I di...

Truthfully I think he's saying time to grow up and get out there into the world where the white man works because that is where the money is at. No one is saying for you not to be an Indian but that you have to deal with what your dealt. Case in point is that he wants people to get off their butts ...
