I don't see what the problem is with the law as written - laws should grant parties the same rights as the state and US constitutions. I don't see how it could be otherwise - any law that infringed on those rights would be open for challenge. In fact that happens every day with laws passed by the va...

You want to solve the problem? Give them the same rights off land as on and let them come to the cities to find jobs. If you mean give them the same rights off reserve as the rest of us, they already have that. There's nothing stopping them from going to the cities right now. Many do, and many wind...

It seems somewhat ironic that you only quoted one sentence out of the entire post. Again, these students are no employees. Notice the word ''usually'', perhaps it should have been stated a different way such as unions dues ''should'' go towards helping those same employees contributing, ex: a steel...

No doubt. But it's not enough to create an economic base. It would be a very small mill for such a small market. These remote reserves have no economic justification for being, so they're just places to keep the natives quiet with welfare.

The only long term solution to keep the community there would be to start a small part time lumber mill that would use nearby trees to drive down construction and firewood costs. Every other solution is just a band-aid that will come off eventually and show that nothing has been fixed. Every soluti...

To counter attack? You certainly frequently make that choice. Probably will do so now. |

Wouldn't the US make any noise if Mexican military crossed the border to take out a known drug cartel ? Not really. By Caleb's rules, (I'm not insulting you, I'm insulting your opinion) I'm allowed to call bullshit here. The US would shit itself if Mexican troops crossed the border without prior pe...

Took me a minute. Actually American Catholics do agree. They're being catholic instead of orthodox about it. In practice anyway. |

You can't prove me wrong as I have made a point of never saying anything like 'you are ____'. Always 'that is ____'. If I find myslef approaching the 'Dark Side' I delete the comment I was making and come back in a hour. If you can prove me wrong, I'll happily apoligise, as I never ever mean to per...

Well, I can't prove you wrong. I've certainly felt insulted by you, but maybe that's just you making light of their opinion. So, how about an example - how would OTI have made light of Martin's opinion without a personal insult. I'm not sure I see the distinction. You mean like "your opinion is...

That's an interesting concept. But if you stop paying once you've paid in approx 25k, what if you then use it, get a new job and lose that one before you've paid in your 25k again - you'd have to get less benefits. I think they should quit calling it insurance - it's income support. And fund it from...

hence the justified insult . . . There is no such thing. Well we're all guilty of that, even you, Caleb. Or did you mean there's no justification for hurling the first insult, replying in kind is fine? In that case, it would be nice if we had an insult meter that raised a flag when the first one wa...
