Forum: Current Events   Topic: U N Elects Saudi Arabia to Women’s Rights Commission

Should we have expected human rights abuses to magically disappear in 4 years? On the other hand, have we seen measurable improvement, globally, since 1948? What about in SA itself? Glaciation moves slowly. So does the UN because the UN can only move as fast as its slowest member. That's because it...

Do you not think that the discussions above are ones that would be beneficial to include nations with poor records on women's rights issues? If not, what are you suggesting as an alternative? Excluding them from these debates does nothing. Having them listen to the reasons why they should change th...

Defending the indefensible is just a waste of resources. No one is defending them. But the first step in changing them is to set a place at the adult table. Making pariahs of them is how you get the North Koreas and Taliban. Nobody said embargo and sanction Saudi Arabia. But you don't give them a p...

Well for starters the formula would be based on total investment, not just purchase price so if you bought a $400k home and at some point put an additional $50k of investment then your starting point is $450k not $400k. Second, the formula would allow for a reasonable rate of return before any appl...

Well I would not limit it to any one city so there would be no pushing the problem to another town. And I'm sure if the tax was high enough it would impact demand. I would make it simple: if you purchase a year-round residential property (ie I'm excluding cottages, time-shares, etc.) AND said prope...

Problem is, HP took it seriously and defended the article...up until they couldn't find the writer for it.

Gotta admit, great joke against HP.

Yay, expanded rent control. Because it's not like the cost for things like hydro aren't already eating into whatever meagre revenue renters outside of the GTA are making.

Which reminds me I should really print out those rent increases for the long term tenants here before it's too late.

Honestly, considering the plant was no doubt mothballed for years, them writing it off and not being responsible for the upkeep takes a burden off of them. Meanwhile, they get a nice court case against Venezuela. Although I just wish the damn country became sane again. Venezuela is such a damn beaut...

I imagine you'll use the activities of this shitty little copycat, who is suspected of SOME, not ALL, of the death threats and bomb threats as an excuse to dismiss all of it. And he apparently had nothing at all to do with the vandalism in the cemeteries. The skinheads could probably march down the...

Yeah, Trudeau's lying. We're nowhere near a "strong actor" in NATO and we're heavily dependent on the US for our defense. Of course, instead of spending more on defense, people are gonna get butthurt because now it's Trump reminding us we neglect our military, instead of Obama or whoever e...

Strutz Strutz:
Disgusting that those we elect spend their time bickering like this. Is it any wonder that more doesn't get done?

Psh, I want more of this. Hell go with some actual combat like you might see in the parliaments of some Asian countries. More entertaining.

Side B: Give us our land and stop the blockade on our port. Oh, and out of curiosity, what land does Israel need to give to Hamas, and why the fuck should Israel not continue a blockade of sea lanes to a group that has never once stopped their desire to kill as many fucking Israels as possible? Als...

Ok so it was launched from the parking lot, hardly a "base of operations" and no evidence it had anything to do with the hospital, I wouldn't go killing hundreds of civilians over it or anything. Wow, okay, now you're just not paying attention, or being purposely ignorant. You wanted evid...
