Ridenrain, there are two things wrong with that comparison 1) Sand is significantly denser than milk and so will not react in nearly the same fashion 2) Tissue is NOT a giant bag of fluid. Most bodily fluids are compartmentalized and are unable to slosh around like carton of milk. Our body beha...

You are very right in using newton to prove this. If I could draw the free body diagrams and write the equations this would be easier. But words will have to do. When a person gets hit they only feel the impact of the bullet. It only has the momentum imparted upon it when it was fired from the g...

I've seen the program. The Vicky lost because braking and also acceleration. As for cop cars, around here the Impala is the most popular, but there is also an increasing number of Chargers. They are pretty intimidating to see behind you. And that program is pretty cool. They had a Z06 Corve...

Agreed F-16 and Leopard II tanks aren't exactly state of the art and are over 30 years old. They are both in the process of getting replaced. The F-16 wasn't even a top of the line fighter in the day, it was supposed to be a cheap export fighter. The Leo II is a good design and tanks last a bit ...

The kicker for me - the point at which I decided these people don't deserve any attention whatsoever - is when they were discussing the flying machine made by gluing 100s of wings of beetles onto the bottom of a platform they stood on. WHAT?!?!?! You don't believe that a device like that flew? Yo...

"Know your enemy and know yourself and you need not fear the result of a thousand battles"
Oddly enough it was a Chinese general who said that first. |

And it is also possible that the Americans detected the Chinese sub and then did nothing, knowing the Chinese wouldn't be so stupid as to start a war. Why? So that they don't reveal their capabilities unless they have to. Its a dangerous play if their guess is wrong. However, the Americans have a...

There is a significant difference between the kick from a gun and the impact from the bullet. The largest force felt from guns is the from the gases exiting the barrel. As for 'fringe science' I support it. But it has to be science. There was the one guy that was lifting several hundred pounds...

This is going way back so I may be wrong, but El Nino has an opposite, La Nina. They both tend to 4 year cycles and are two years appart from each other. In a La Nina year the temperature of the ocean is a bit cooler. It doesn't get reported as much because it does not cause as much severe weathe...

Albedo, reflextion of sunlight by snow, is the main reason that winter seldom begins before the winter solstice but lingers long past equinox. I always attributed that to thermal lag, the fact that it takes time for things to heat up and cool down after they start recieving less sunlight. For th...

A little side note, I've been gone for about a year and I come back and people are talking about 'hockey pucks' and to a lesser extent 'hockey sticks' in every thread. could someone explain?

dgthe3 Posted: It became a moral issue because we now have the potential to change the world in a way never before seen. That may or may not be a good thing. So the moral question is about what do we do if the world is changing? It became a moral issue when folks like yourself make pronounce...
