personal responsiblity is important, but when we're in a recession and jobs are being lost in the hundreds of thousands you have to admit there's something larger going on than individual choices. The problem is structural and so the solution has to be structural too. A 'liberal' looks at the Titani...

Now I have read the story... Europeans were Neanderthals, and Homo Sapiens were African. How come the "whites", that originally are Neanderthals, are thinking they were (and in some cases still are) "better" than the original HS Whoa there! The scientific consensus is that both ...

They do seem to tazer a lot, but I guess its better than shooting them. Obviously this man wasn't tasered as an alternative to shooting him, sound like the cops just got lazy. The problem with tasers is that they were brought in as an alternative to using deadly force with a sidearm but cops instea...

Big Pharma has all kinds of tricks to keep the price high in the US. For starters, they spend as much on R&D as they do on marketing: U.S. drug companies spend almost twice as much on marketing and promoting medications than on research and development, a new Canadian study says. "These num...

But the problem during recession is alot of people are 'forced' into temporary jobs that are here today and gone tomorrow and now they don't qualify for EI because they didn't work long enough. In the last recession, over 80% of the unemployed population qualified for EI, now its only in the 40% ran...

You don't have a lot of ressources here against malpractice execpt suspension or denied to practice for life. That's not true at all. You can sue, you just can't sue for a hundred billion dollars for a broken fingernail because you "have nightmares". Regardless of whether the doctor leave...

all doctors have malpractice insurance through the college of physicians and surgeons, but large rewards for medical malpractice or other personal injury suits are far less common. Courts are generally hesitant to award huge sums of money for vague claims like "pain and suffering" and more...

Yes. I would, hands down, take my health insurer over what I had in Canada. My coverage is fabulous. But that's me. Others have had a different experience. I would venture then that you have not had to use your insurance for anything other than routine check-ups in your insurer's provider network a...

Look, there's no such thing as having "full coverage" in the US as there is in Canada, even if you are a multi-millionaire and paying $1000 + a month for insurance, there are significant out-of-pocket costs and coverage limitations. The most common health insurance plan in the US is an 80/...

What I understand of the proposed law is that the private system will stay. So it will be like a competition between a lot of hospitals and systems. That's what they have in the countries that have best healthcare. Something we do not have here. There are a lot of problems with the proposed Public ...

That has nothing to do with our health care system or the gov't, thats the decision of the specialist he's seeing. It may be that the surgery he's wanting is risky and the specialist doesn't believe in taking the risk of killing a patient on the operating table just for a "quality of life"...

link Just sayin'. That point appears to be up to debate. While perhaps the amount of medical bankruptcies may be overstated it balances against wait times being understated. http://www.mnprogressiveproject.com/diary/3526/what-about-wait-times-in-the-us Well, if ever there's a group that bashes all ...

No, 15% of Americans don't have any insurance at all...and millions more are underinsured meaning they have high deductibles and co-pays that make health care effectively unaffordable. "Typical" US insurance covers only 80% of "approved" services and fee rates leaving the patient...

I think the difference is in the concept of "food" vs. "meat and produce". This study compares only the raw produce. The study does not compare all organic foods to all non-organic foods. For example, An organic apple may not necessarily be more nutritious than a geneticially mod...
