NEVER!

Well, yeah, that's my first choice, too. But the fact of life is that the Quebecers will eventually leave because they keep agitating for it.

OhGarfield you keep talking shit about immigration, the US is even more diverse than Canada is. Americans of all colours would flood Canada and you won't be able to sleep.

Now I must take a shower because I participated in a shit troll topic.

ps. Canada should protect its unity, just like the US protected its unity against Confederate separation.

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
If Quebec separates then that will fragment Canada and I imagine Alberta will probably seek statehood and maybe even Newfoundland & Labrador as they considered statehood during World War 2 before they joined Canada. That might start a domino effect where the rest of the provinces decide to go for statehood or independence.

I'd imagine the Democrats in the USA would spend a billion or more on propaganda to encourage Canadian provinces to join the states because there'd be twelve more Democrat Senators right at the start and maybe four more depending on what happens in Sask and Manitoba.

Ontario would not surprise me if it went independent.

Just because Alberta go's against ottawa doesnt mean we want to be part of the states,I dont know where people get that from,we know how to deal with them on an economic platform, sure dont mean we want to join them.
We may seem independant to others but that's because we are. Some seem to equate that with us wanting to seperate.
Time to break that stereotype.

Once Quebec goes , Canada goes . B.C. does not give a hoot about Newfoundland and English Canada is somewhat reminiscent of the galimaufry that was Austria-Hungary. Canada would basically split by time zones : B.C. would become Northern California , Alberta through Ontario the Northern Midwest , the Maritimes Northern New England.

Confederations don't survive without geographic unity . When our British ancestors split the Indian Raj into India and Pakistan , the latter with two separate components to it (West and East) , it was only a matter of years until East Pakistan broke away and became Bengla Desh .

Fact of the matter is simple : without Quebec , there is no Canada . If Quebec is sent packing , it is a clear decision to go American , like it or not . So , what will it be : "Vive la différence" together , or just more bitter confrontation towards a rancorous break-up ? If tolerance prevails , Canada can still have its own distinct future as the big Switzerland of America. If not , the only key question is the liquidation exchange rate for the then-late Canadian dollar to the US dollar.

That's true but there are some liberal in the US as well. I think both countries like their independence. I know I do not want some larger federal government trying, and succeeding to often, to rule my life.

With Barak Obama, this is the perfect time to spread liberalism to the US. Perhaps then, the right wing could move someplace way down south in the US and separate.

lots of hype but we'll have to wait to see if there is any substance

Obama is going to be no different than Bush, Clinton or McCain would have been. Less just run down the list of things that Obama is not going to do.

Not planning to scrape the Patriot Act
Not planning to end the war on drugs and terrorism
Not planning to end the no child left behind
Sending more troops to Afgan
Not bring troops home form Germany, Japan and Korean to name some
Not getting rid of the fait money system
Not going to stop all unconstitutional bailouts ( which is all of them)
Not going to stop the build up of debt
Not going to stop medicare and medicaid

That is just a few things. No differences. Same old, same old

OhGarfield OhGarfield:
well, in case some people don't understand, let me explain it here, i meant:

after Canada seperates with Quebec, do you think it should join the United States?

in that case, Alaska can be connected to continental US through Canada and all 3 parts can merge into a big country.

Firstly, why would Canada give up as a country to join the United States just because Quebec left? Quebec is somebody that holds Canada back and is of actual no importance to Canada. All they do is whine, take Government money and whine some more without contributing anything back.

Secondly, why would Canada give up it's rich history and culture to join the United States? Canada has boring politics, mainly because we are one of the few countries that has less corruption in it's government. Why would we want to give up a less corrupt government for a government who doesn't give two shit's about the public except when it's voting season?

Thirdly, Canadian's love Universal Health Care. Infact the world does. America is the only country that does not have it and that is not the only thing Canadian's like in there life-style that American's feel differently about.

A merge would have to ensure one side get's rid of there life-style in order to just be apart of the merge. Which is stupid.

The only thing I feel would benefit this deal would be the military, seeing how it would be a lot easier to conduct peace keeping efforts if we had the proper military tools to do them.

That alone is not good enough reason to give up Canada in order to merge with the United States.

A merge is purely idiotic for the simple reason that Canada and America country wise might not be different. We both watch the same shows and movies, our cities look alike. Our life resolves around the same daily routine, wake up and have a coffee. Go to work and come home and relax with a beer.

That is just the look of the countries, the ideals and opinions. The idea of what we want, and how we want to live our lives. What kind of health care we want, and what kind of safety-nets we want and how much tax we are willing to pay for those safety nets.

Canadian's and American's are just not the same, a merge will not work. It would benefit one side only, while the other side suffers. The benefit would no doubt go to American's since they are the majority and keeping there country.

If Canada were ever to merge with America, I would try it but I would most likely move to another country.

Quebec won't leave - it hasn't and a majority of its population reject the silly notion of sovereignty-association or pure Independence.

Canada has been defined by rejecting American Republicanism and there's no compelling reason as to why we would simply eradicate our sovereignty, culture or history to join the United States.

If there are those here that are Americanphiles, you can leave, but don't assume we all share your views nor would welcome the end of Canada.
