$1: Canada vs USA. Well this one is easy. I just returned to Canada after 12 years in the United States. Personally, Canada's medical care is Bull Shit!! Moved to Alberta, started working in the Oil Patch. My medical care was $89 a month in the USA. In Canada/Alberta I pay $350 every 3 months. Cable TV/Bell ExpressVU!! HA! HA! HA! Fucking joke. I can watch the same program 4 times a night on Canadian TV. (one for each time zone) Rolling Eyes Canadian TV/Cable sucks. Glad I kept my Tivo/DirecTV. Cost of living. Jobs outside the patch pay $8 - $15hr on average. (Same as in the USA) Cost of food, rent is 125% more expensive in Canada I have a 1bdrm basement apartment for $700/mo in Canada. I had a 2drm, 2 bath, fireplace, washer/dryer, dishwasher, brand new apt for $574/mo McDonalds! $18 for 2 in Canada. $12 for 2 in the USA. Not to metion a better choice of restaurants. In short. CANADA SUCKS HARD COCK!!! All I can say is: http://www.unitednorthamerica.org/index.htm
Then why did you come back here if you had it so good in the United States?

You are forgetting exchange rates. A lot of what you are bitching about varies across the country, and in some cases, is a matter of opinion.

Because my family who happens to be die hard Canadians sold me the line on how things have changed in the past 12 years. How great they are up here. (besides, the Conservatives are in power now, how bad could it be)
My sister told me how great the money is in the patch, which isn't that bad. $350 day rate. Nevertheless, you need to make that to live here.
It's still culture shock coming back to Canada.
I don't understand why everything is so bloody expensive up here vs. the USA. Why it cost Canadians almost twice as much as our US counterparts.
Trust me, Canadians are getting ripped a new one.
As far as staying here in Canada, humm. I'm buying a rig (tractor trailer) this week and look forward to OTR in the USA.

Yeah, I thought about that too. But the exchange rate is about 10%, not 125%.
I mean, I can understand an apartment on the California coast going for $1000 or $1500 a month.
But a basement apartment in Airdrie, Alberta.. no dishwasher, air conditioning, 1 bdrm for $700 or $750.
 WTF

Supply and demand... You didn't think the working class was going to get to sweep up just because there's a boom did you
Hey with all the demand for new workers and limited supplies why wouldn't someon charge the maximum for their rental? People that bought into the communit before the boom are simply getting their share. You must have learned about these processes in the States. Two bedrooms with a fireplace? Where were you living Timbuktu?

Like I said, it varies across the nation...

Yes you are living right outside of Calgary. It has a huge housing shortage right now. I'm not sure what you expected most people coming to Alberta are there as you said to make money from the boom and most just share an apartment between a bunch of people or try and get a room.
I live outside of Vancouver and my flat is $600/m, which is pretty good for this place. Most are probably closer to $700 now. Downtown I have no idea what it is probably very expensive. Again we are having a housing boom here too and prices have gone up quite a bit in recent years. Plus we are hosting the Winter Olympics in 2010. I have family in Edmonton they only pay around $500/m for a 1br flat. So it depends where you go. Overall I have found Canada cheaper than the United States or really not much of a difference. I never found the grass greener on the other side as you have stated.

Actually that was a stock photo. I was on TB14 outside Jenner, just 5 miles north of the airbase.
Right now I am considering going back out on a rig up by Vallyview, or start OTR with my own rig (tractor trailer/owner operator).
