Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
GregEllis GregEllis:
I'm with JonasCanuck. Canadians can scream about American invasions and hegemony all they want, but many have no idea how integrated the two already are unless they read economic policy stuff showing just how close we have become. At this rate, people even predict an EU-like merger within the next few decades, which is being aggressively promoted by corporations as well as institutes (with all the funding that involves).

.....

You make it sound liek the Union is going to be a good thing for our countries. :(

You think Canada has it bad?

You don't have France as your next-door neighbour along your entire southern border (albeit a sea border) and you aren't a part of the same Union as the arrogant French, humourless Germans, corrupt Italians, high Dutch, annoyingly happy Danes and the chip-on-the-shoulder inferiority-complex Irish.

Just imagine how it feel living on an island off the coast of France.

I really think that Canadians forums should keep it Canadian we already have lost too much of our identity. Our ancestors came here and fought, cleared the land made it a country,we had our Canadian ideas on how to run our country and now we have every other country trying to tell us how to think and do everything here. We know what our politics are not them.

You have a sea border. Quebecers can walk or drive into Canada.

How have you lost your identity? Did you give it away, or did someone take it? What is the Canadian identity?

TheFoundersIntent TheFoundersIntent:
What bothers me more than anything else is the viciousness with which some Canadians make statements about America. Okay, we're not perfect, and it's okay to have an opinion. But I see some pure hate in some of the insults, and rhetorical one-liners that don't even contain any truth. Calling Bush a moron, is a Democrat talking point and every American who see that knows it. Be a Canadian, not a Democrat. I don't know anyone personally that hates Canada, but most of the derrogatory statements are made in defense against Canadian Anti-Americanism. We stood up to British tyranny in the 18th century, and that is our way. Love us, hate us or whatever....that is a characteristic of Americans. I think that's why we became a super power, to try and stop the tyranny against innocent people. I'm sure most Canadians support that basic philosophy.

You should remember that the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Upper Canada were built by Americans that preferred British ‘tyranny’ to US democracy.

Maybe that's why we see things a bit differently to you chaps south of us.
