In a topic I started in "American from Japan immigrating to Canada; relocation advise," a poster made this comment:

"You come off as an arrogant yank you think you’re an expert on Canada because you read a few books? Maybe you need some advice don’t tell other people how to run their country when you are here you should be feel privileged to be here."

Aside from the atrocious grammar (I excuse spelling mistakes on the Internet, but not grammar), I thought, "Hey, wouldn't this make a good topic of discussion in THIS forum.

So, do you think Americans have a right to an opinion on Canadian topics? And vice versa. Do Canadians have a right to an opinion on American opinions.

If you think no, then what do you think should be the place of Canadians in America and Americans in Canada? Pay your taxes and shutt the eff up? Or what?

$1:
Do Canadians have a right to an opinion on American opinions.
Some of the arrogant Canadians that made those comments might think the validity of an opinion is based solely on nationality, but they've made it abundantly clear that they themselves would have nothing else to fall back on.

Well, really, nations should keep out of each other nations stuff. Canadians shouldn't do it anymore then Americans. And Vice Versa.

But of course you do have a right to opinion.

We can't keep out of each other's stuff. We're too interconnected, interdependent, and our decisions impact others sometimes far away.

I'm with JonasCanuck. Canadians can scream about American invasions and hegemony all they want, but many have no idea how integrated the two already are unless they read economic policy stuff showing just how close we have become. At this rate, people even predict an EU-like merger within the next few decades, which is being aggressively promoted by corporations as well as institutes (with all the funding that involves).

I'm refusing to return to America because I think it is royally screwed up and is too dangerous and dysfunctional for my children. I'm the last one to pop champaign about something like that. I'm also an anti-corporation populist. I think it is an incredibly dangerous thing, especially for Canada, which has yet to fully be infected with the cancers killing America. But I am also saying that, if the current trends stay the course, it is inevitable. If anything goes wrong, just in in the EU, it would be pretty ugly here in North America. That is one of those issus a know-it-all hegemonic American (right Clogeroo?) like me wants to voice his opinion about after I immigrate, even if a new party needs to be formed to do it.

GregEllis what are you trying to do gain sympathy from the forum? Maybe my point wasn't clear you are sitting there telling everything how Canada is and should be when you have not even lived here or even are a Canadian. I don't encourage people to piss on other countries when they are coming to live in them. If you are just going to come here just to spout off to everyone what they should be doing and how they should do things in their country that is arrogant and shows no appreciation for the country that took you in. I never once went to another country and told them how to do things. I have never once went to the United States and complained about their country’s people or its laws. If you want to go around attacking people on their own soil go right ahead but I doubt it will be the most warmly welcomed gesture.

I have no objection to people expressing their opinions on matters but I look at it this way. Canada is the host everyone else who comes here are guests. The guests are lucky to even be invited to sit at our table and it is rude to attack the very table that you are blessed to sit at.

I agree.

Yes, a New Political Party needs to be formed in both countries....

I think peopel should debate and debate until an extremly centralist point of view is formed, and we will perfect a nation, because both Left and Right are great in different ways. Just combine those together correctly and we might have a country without crap. If the capatalist corperations destroy North America, I'm joining that group Arctive Menace was talking about. The Anti-North American Union Group. ;)

Expecially if Mexico joined. I highly doubt many Mexicans are mad about this union, but I'm sure many Americans are. Ever since that hole "a day without an immigrant" thing. And many Canadians are still peeved about NAFTA.

I think All Unions, Acts, Agreements and such between nations that are not related to war related matters should be burned.

I don't know which one to agree with.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
I highly doubt many Mexicans are mad about this union, but I'm sure many Americans are.

Mexican farmers have been livid about NAFTA for years, as have several other segments of the population.
