This is one of my fave tunes, from Dire Straits..Says a lot...

BROTHERS IN ARMS

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptism of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

Nice. You may join for a world of reasons but you always fight for you're friends.
Someone (not me) posted this up on militaryphotos.com and it's well worth the look.

Despite all the patriotic claims and other hoopla....

In the final analysis, unit cohesion and comradship are the primary loyalties in the field.

Geo-politic are seldom considered except for that lonely fraternity called fighter pilots-----and they are usually involved in a great game..........but still guard their buddies six.

Wow! nice videos. This might be my favorite thread.

There is a harsh reality to military life. Most are not at the top of the command chain, have to do some diry jobs and have to beg for respect. Yet, I am proud to be a vet. During my lifetime, our vets have been the bedrock of our society, quietly standing by, but ready to do whatever it takes to keep the peace. But things are changing. I just hope that the new generation will be sucessful at waging peace. However, I am concerned that folks won't have a common ethic that we once had. However, I am optimistic.

When I go to heaven, I hope to meet up with my buds, and my father's buddies (WWII - U.S. Navy, USS William D. Porter, sunk by kamakazi off Okinawa) and my grandfather's comrades (WWI France, U.S. Army).

Rux - USN, 1965 - 1972.
