I live near Point Roberts, a small community whose only land access is via Canada. The population is mostly Canadian, and they rely heavily on Canadian business. When the dollar was at its lowest, several business advertised Canadian dollas at par, which always made me wonder what their American clientele thought.

Hopefully they thought to buy Canadian currency and use that for themselves.

What are we to do with Canadian retailers? I went to buy a book in Cole's in Regina and they wanted $25.95 US or $35.95 Can. I offered to pay them the US price for the book(in Canadian dollars) but no such luck. Next week I'm going to offer them $25.95 US dollars and see if they balk. No one in Canada should pay the Canadian Price on books when the US Price is that much lower. WE are paying a premium for many things up here.

Too bad so many don't like the Taxpayers Federation because that's directly up their alley.

Some book stores in Edmonton are discounting the price to match the dollars recent strength. In the future ask for the discount or simply refuse to buy the book (buy it on Amazon, which most likely has adjusted it's prices). If enough people walk, book sellers (and others) will smarten the hell up awfully fast.

I bought that same saw from Home Depot about a year and a half ago and paid $550.00 on sale for it and got two spare blades with it. Not surprised it's still cheaper in the US though.

One of the funnier bits of business, recently, was watching two Americans trying to stuff US one dollar bills into the parking meter in Windsor, Ontario. After a few minutes, of silent laughter, I sauntered over and explained the Loonie coin concept to them.

They were also aghast to learn that THEIR money wouldn't work in OUR country's pop machines. Duh.

In many cases, it is pure ignorance, as in " I ain't been here before , so I don;t have any experience. ". Of course, the lack of information, about Canada, lies squarely in the lap of the US media, who can't even get the place names right in a story about an event in Canada.
