I'm so sick of this being posted. Ya, it's a good speech and all, but it was stated almost 40 years ago now and a lot has happened in that time. At least find a new one.

I don't think Gordon Sinclair would have made the same speech now.

poquas poquas: I don't think Gordon Sinclair would have made the same speech now. Speech! Glad you said that. Maybe not.
Yet! It should be noted, that years befoe the recent quakes, Seymour, Indiana (my home) along with many other surrounding cities, has sent medical teams to Haiti esveral times each year. This year our cities team had just arrives home when they left for Chile. Same with many other local cities. Area churches have an on going aid program for money, food and clothing for needy all over the world. The U.S. people are the same as when this speech was made. What those Ding-Bats do in Washington D.C. is not and will never be an indicator of the hearts of the people of our Heartland.

The Battle Hymn of the Republic playing in the background made the whole thing pretty obnoxious.
So the US doesn't deserve to be gratuitously hated on... does any country? It doesn't mean they have to have their balls licked by everyone either.
And as the poster above me said, the people and the government are two different things.
Can you think of a more monstrous, overblown, meddling, dangerous governement than that of the US? I can't, and I've tried. The Russians, the Iranians, the Chinese... they don't scare me. Only the Yanks do.
That being said, blood is thicker than water. The people are generally good and friendly.

What I am glad to see is that most Canadians realized that while the people in Washington are a bunch of greedy obnoxious retarts for the most part we individual Americans aren't like that. We go through life days to day trying to do do what is best for all concern. There are a number of American assholes who go around making life difficult and that behavior isn't limited the Americans.
When I go up to Canada especially when it is not the tourist season I find that people make me feel very welcome. The last time I was there in a busy coffee shop a policeman asked to share my table and we had one very warm conversation between us. I've never had that experience in New York.
I deeply resent the new border restrictions between our countries especially as this is the result of insistence of George W and Obama and a group of other morons. Yes, the is a real border between two countries remember the border crossing as little more trouble than a the highway toll.
Canada seems to be a much kinder and friendlier society I notice it when I return very quickly.Canada is a special place for me.(Please forgive me from digressing from the thread).
I'm glad that Canadians can separate us from that group of mentally ill people in Washington DC and no small credit goes to this web site. Where we can discuss things have our disagreements at times and learn from each other and discover that we have a whole hell of a lot more in common than our national differences.

================================================================= Angler57 Well my young friend that, as is said is your opinion. Now I think feel that Washington D.C. is made up of a lot of knuckle draggers. But, they are our knuckle draggers.
Have heard these same words applied to both Quebec and France. They are not my words. Seems us normal citizens need to accept and understand each other with friendship and understanding. What happens in capital cities should stay there.

Neither Quebec (which is only a Canadian province) nor France are comparable to China, Russia, Iran and the US as far as the potential for starting global conflicts is concerned. Sorry.

Personally when i think of the US these days i think of the self inflicted wounds like their current economic meltdown. You can draw a straight line from their personal avarice to their the current problems now. When i think of america these days when someone from the US says they stand for for "Liberty" i think of their discrimination against gays and lesbians, or i think of Abhu Gharib or Gitmo. When i think of the US these days on how 'christian' they are i think of the 10's of millions of people in that county who have no health insurance and how many people die because they cant afford proper medical treatment because their bank balance indicates it's better that they die than you have a government run health care system because....well because it would be "socialist".
When i hear Americans tell the world how great they are, i hear hypocrisy. It sad really because i dont always think this way, but ever since thier last election i have seen vitriol which is unrivaled except in countries like Iran or Russia.
The worst part is that not all Americans are like this, some are reasonalbe, they just happned to be trapped within a country which seems to have taken collective leave of it's senses. I have a large amount of sympathy for them all i can hope is that over time thier country as a whole will become rational

You should think about immigrating here. You seem to really like it here. You wouldn't be very far from your home area and if you figured out you didn't like it, you could always move back.

MacDonaill MacDonaill: Can you think of a more monstrous, overblown, meddling, dangerous governement than that of the US? Nothing personal here, okay? But it's ironic that I hear plenty of Canadians express essentially this same sentiment and barely any of you bat an eye at that. But let an American say the same thing and most Canadians immediately jump to the conclusion that whoever it is saying it is a right-wing extremist or something to that effect.
