True. Now they only have to worry about themselves.

The part of what I don't like about Nader and the Green Party in Florida in 2000 is that I think it seriously damaged the viability of third parties. I mean, if you voted for the Green party in 2000 and have been watching with horror what's happened to the US, I doubt they'll ever vote for a third party ever again.

There will always be third parties challenging the two major parties. And one of these days the GOP or the Dems will find themselves marginalized by one of those third parties and then it'll be the GOP or the Dems who will be on the fringe.

Again, the third parties have an important job to do as they give people an outlet when their own party is deaf to them.

True. I think this year we'll see a third party make an impact, especially if Guiliani wins the GOP nomination. Already a lot of the religious right leaders are threatening to jump ship because he isn't theocratic enough for them.

Nader is on CNN live right now saying the Democrats ran a conspiracy against him in 2004 and he's thinking of retaliating by running again in 2008.

This ought to be good!

I won't vote for Giuliani simply because he isn't conservative enough.

He may pass as a conservative in New York City, but even in California we'd call him a liberal.

Thing is, his reputation will forever be tarred by what happened in Florida in 2000 fair or unfair as it may be.
what happened in florida?

And Tricks, first Jack Layton and now Ralph Nader, you've had some interesting speakers so far at your university (I'm quite jealous I must say). You're going to U of Western Ontario right?
Suzuki as well. I'm technically at UWO. But I'm at one of the affiliates. KUC. And that's where these speeches are taking place, not at the main campus. Our student council is bringing them in. Though I kinda wish there was more of a balance. They are only getting people who are the popular opinion amongst the students. Why not get someone from the other side?

A lot of people still blame Nader for costing Gore the election by stealing votes that would have went to Gore.

And who knows, maybe David Horowitz will bring his Islamofascism awareness week up your way...
We have a so called ismaofascist professor at Main Campus. He says the Koran is violent. People don't like him saying that.

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
But has he stolen votes from Democrats to help Republicans?

No more than Ross Perot stole votes from the GOP in 1992.

It wasn't Nader's fault or Perot's fault that people left their parties to vote for them - it was the fault of the parties for alienating their people so much that they left to vote for someone else.

Absolutely totally agree.

However, Nader won 85,000 votes here in Florida while Bush won by 500. Gore would have easily won Florida and would have been President had Nader not run.

On the other hand, Gore would have also been President had he simply won Tennessee. Its tough to cry over Florida when you can't even win your own state.

Nader is a lawyer who first hit the scene in the 60's with a suit filed against GM for the Chevy Corvair, which had suspension problems. He's also responsible for your car having the windshield glued in place to strength the body. He a Green Party man, which means he's a communist.
