I felt I should toss my two cents in so that the message is clear.
Yes, he did retract his statements later, which is good, however what incited him to post his original statements?
Somone with a clear mind would not go to a Shakespearean website and bad mouth old William. Noone wih any decency would go to a senior's support forum and posts messages about senile old farts. And if I were running a forum on African-American issues, I would not want hate propoganda posted by members of the KKK. So why would should someone visit what is obviously a very pro-Canadian website, and be allowed to spew venom.
I certainly agree with the earlier statements that guests should have the ability to read but not post. When it comes to community, let the community speak.
Once again, just my two cents.

on of the great things about Canada is you are allowed to have your opinion
I forget who once said this but it goes something like this..
" I may not agree with your opinion, but I will lay down my life so that you may have it"

I am very greatful that we live in such a country where such freedoms exist. I also believe that our Parliament was correct in passing laws involving hate crimes. Under Canadian law, any group who would pass on any type of hate propoganada (whether through telemarketing or handing out flyers to people on the street) is commiting a crime. The rights of the many are greater than the rights of the few. And that's where I was coming from in my previous statemnets. You have the right to say as you wish, but if it conflicts with the rights of the many, you better think twice.
Once again, just my two cents.

$1: The rights of the many are greater than the rights of the few.
In Canada "Peace, Order and Good Government" is the motto, whereas the U.S. Constitution reads, "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness". The Canadian system is more oriented towards collective rights while the U.S. system emphasizes individual rights.

natooke natooke: Great post and I agree ...
Thanks, natooke. I guess I'm just one of those types of people who wants to support his community and that is what I look at this as. If you come in to criticize the community, then obviously you do not belong.
If Canadaka.net were Springfield, CanadaKA would be Mayor Quimby, RoyalHighlander would be Chief Quimby, and I would be...umm... Troy McLuire???
Hi, I'm jmjinks. You may remember from such posts as...
Well, maybe not Troy. But you get the point.

Yes and no.
If you look historically, the most active thread(s) are those that invite creativity or discussion, not necessarily debate.
The Word Game or the One Word threads are prime examples of just that. Invite some creativity and watch evryone try to add to the growing list.
I guess only time can tell, as we move forward.

Hi, I'm jmjinks, you might remember me from such specials as "the science of forums", and "Canada: How The Beer Was Good".
Wasn't it usually two movie titles? Maybe I'm just pushing it.

Not that any points were true, but it did give us pause to think a bit....
