I don't limit myself to just Canadian Authors- I like Robert Heinlein (pretty much everything), Frank Herbert (Dune series), Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, Neil Stephenson (Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon) as well...

I've been looking for some RJ Sawyer to pick up. There's lots to read in this genre!

Used to read a lot of fantasy and horror. Find reading about the Canadian political scene pretty much fulfils my needs in this regard. Harper - Cthulhu - Lord Foul... pretty much a pick-em.

Read a lot of sci-fi (Ellison, Dick, Farmer, Heinlein..just about everyone.). GST on books and revocation of my library card after the 'obscene notations made in the C. Black' biography incident put a kibosh on that.

Sci Fi?? There's this new one out about a bunch of corrupt billionaires putting laser beams and nuclear missiles in outer space. They're cleverly disguised as harmless businessmen, but they use mercenaries to take over the world's oilfields. They're bent on world domination and will stop at nothing to succeed. They give money and weapons to guerilla groups in order to overthrow democratically elected governments. But because they hide behind the facade of the world's most economically successful, self-proclaimed 'democracy', they claim to be fighting FOR democracy while in reality they are dismantling it on a global scope in order to empower friendly dictators globally.

It's a very real and frightening book. These people use everything from internet and phone taps to leveraging foreign (Canadian) census contracts their way. They have enacted a "Patriot Act" that allows the government to seize any information from any corporation without telling anyone about it. This is like 1984, only real. Sick.

Gee Kory it sounds a bit like Rushing to Armaggedon to me too? Sci-fi and reality are starting to meld together in an uncomfortable oozing matter!

Ok I'm sold. I'll go and buy the damn book. What are student loans for, other than educating oneself?
