The following article was forwarded from a friend's friend and may have originally appeared in a local paper. Sorry I can't give credit where due, it may have been a Community Association Newsletter.

It seems to me that even the cheapest unit mentioned would likely likely pay for itself in my house within 5 years, and faster for anyone with a large family. I wonder what the lifetime of the unit might be....

I had spoken to JoAnne (as mentioned below) many months ago as I walked my dog by her house and asked what exactly the solar panels were powering. She had said then even on cloudy days (of which we have enough during the winter, thank you!) she was extremely impressed with the output, and wasn't initially expecting much unless it was sunny. It's such a shame that is was designed and patented in 1976 and never marketed. Here is the article:

Gibsons Landing Community Association's
1st Solar hot water tour…
October 19, 2008
On a sunny afternoon this past weekend, members of the GLCA gathered to learn more about how some progressive residents of Gibsons are getting proactive on alternate energy ideas.
Four residences were on the itinerary, and all had installed solar systems within the past year. The in-floor radiant heating and hot water systems in these homes are pre-heated by the sun to greatly reduce the use of fossil fuels.
The tour started at the home of Ivan Tentchoff and Evi Blueth. Barry Gillis of Free Fuel Forever or ph. 604-740-9864) had installed a very simple, ingenious and economical solar vacuum tube collector and insulated tank on the roof of the home, and it has been efficiently making hot water for about the last four months.

It is possible to completely live out of solar power without depending in any electricity company. How would I have to spend if I want to depend only on solar energy?

Head down to your local MOZAMBIQUE building centre and ask them.
