My impression from what I saw on TV was that it was just a paint. Is there any reason why they wouldn't powder coat them? That's always been a much more durable way of applying pigments to metal.

from the looks of i its not really paint its more of a coloured fiber bond.

Which still doesn't explain why they wouldn't powder coat them. Maybe it doesn't work with certain kinds of metal or something?

i'd think it would be too expensive for a limited run coin, i'm working off assumption but i bet they must have had a ton of people try and figure out the logistics of doing it [since its never been done before] and i guess this was the easiest and most cost efficient, or they have may have gone a diffrent way.
