Your a good, proud man Royal Highlander. Wish we had more people like you. Sorry about upsetting you with the cowardice statement. I guess I was just venting a little steam with everything that's been going on lately.
As far as that other person (CanadaKA), Please do us all a favor and stay home. I think New York has been through quite enough If you do go to NY as you stated, I truly hope you get lost in Harlem and get sodomized
Oh, one more thing before I go, I do want to say a couple good things about your country. #1. You have great beer! #2. Great Hockey Teams and Skaters. #3. Me and a couple friends were taking a bike ride around Lake Superior years ago and we had a breakdown out in the middle of nowhere. A real Good Samaritan came along with a harley in the back of his truck and put my friends bike in with it and drove him 120 miles to Thunder Bay on a Sunday. Then he called the owner of the shop so he could get his bike repaired asap. Then he took us over to a local lounge and kept buying us rounds of shots till we could barely walk. He wouldn't let us even buy a round. As we were leaving he got in a slight fender bender with another car. We wanted to stay and help him but he told us to get the hell out of here cause he knew we would be in big trouble if the police got us for DWI. That is one hell of a guy I won't forget. Since I vented out yesterday with some pretty negative comments about your country, I figured I should write something more positive today. All the best to you.
Take Care

Yes I am Rob very much so a Proud Canadian. I served 8 yrs in the Military and know all too well the price of freedom and the cost involved. Thank you for your kinder words.. We are your ally just as much as Mr Blair is but we do it in a more subtle fashion. We do things that need to be done but with out the hullaballoo or fan fare...After the attacks of 9/11 Millions of dollars were raise and sent from Canada to you agencies in the NYC area.. And whole trooop of people from our Edmonton salvation Army went to NYC and for weeks worked 12 hrs shifts feeding and ministering to the resue workers and citisens alike Blood was donated by Canadians and ear marked to be used in the U.S... I stood with friends that day and cried with you people over what had happened..and wished I could rejoin and do some thing about it...I did other things instead which were just as important to helping and for me to know that I did not stand idley by and do nothing. We are a great nation too, only 25 million of us compared to your 250 million.. But like that fellow that helped you when your bike broke down, We do thing not for reward or recompense , but because its the right thing to do...

RoyalHighlander ... greetings to Edmonton ... I was born & raised in the great city
First of all I AM CANADIAN and I'm more proud to say this then I ever have before ... one discovers this when you're an expat ....
My father at the very young age went to war in Europe ... I couldn't even start to think, what was going through his mind ... he never told us about any of the horrid things that went on ... but I do know that Canadians are well thought of in many countries in Europe. A few years back, I went to Germany a visited 2 consintration camps ... WHY to never forget what man kind can do to each other in the most evil of ways. 2) To pay respect. I tell you it opened my eyes ... an experiance, that I NOW understand what others fought for.[the price of freedom and the cost involved] as Royal Highlander wrote.
After 9/11 in late october I flew back to Edmonton and was surprised by the out pouring of concern for fellow Americans and how tragic it was ... never in my life time have I seen an out cry of help ... I heard , read & listend to accounts of Edmontonians who rushed to the Airport to help stranded flyers .. (it's at least 30 miles out of the city Rob)... people of all walks of life wearing the Canadian/USA flags in support ... American Flag flying half staff ... donations for blood , money ... books of condolances ... people taking in others cus they had no other means to get home (boarders were closed) ... people helping people ... people shock & crying.
Rob ... I double dog dare you to become a member here Instead of being a guest I assume that anger is one way of dealing with what has happened and to maybe learn that because one nation doesn't outwardly do it "The American Way" doesn't mean they do not care about any other horrid events that has happend in this world ... you are mixing up politics with what the common person/nation feels. As I'm living in Sweden the government didn't send in troops or did they talk to the Nation about the crisis of 9/11 ... this country is a member of the UN ... the country works in it's own system to battle for one cause ........ Freedom for mankind.
Until you become a member (or any others) and give true facts behind your posts, I will not respond and I suggest other proud Canadians/members do the same ignore. [/quote]

If you though the list of members, we do have a number of members from the U.S. We can only hope that perhaps some of them would like to share their viewpoint with the rest of us.

I just wanted to chime in here and let all of you know what an unbelievably beautiful country and people you Canadians are. I hope one day to emigrate from the US as I have always admired the Canadian philosophy of life. It's strange, I have grown up in the US and the older I get the less I like it. I have always felt like a stranger in a strange land here. I don't like the obsession with money and power, I don't like the elitism, sexism, and overly aggressive tone that accompanies most of society here. Don't get me wrong, there are many, many wonderful people in this country but I can see why the rest of the world views us as arrogant and loud on the whole. I hope that when the day comes that I am able to pick up stakes and emmigrate I will be able to make many freinds and integrate myself without letting too many folks know my country of origin. Anyway, have a good day and hoist a Molson for me!!
P.S. Canadian humor kicks ass, Canadian women kick ass, Canadian beer kicks ass, Leslie Nielsen kicks ass, The Kids in the Hall kicks ass, and your country is so physically beautiful as to be almost beyond description.

I think I missed something in a trend, I will have to look into it.
Chris - thanks for the cool words about our country. I am a very proud Canadian. I have the maple leaf of my shoulder and look at it everyday with pride. I am sure you will make it up here, and when do crack a cold one for me.
Rob - Canada has always been humble in our actions. We don't feel the need to say "look what we did" after we do something, and people respecct us for that. I find the only country in the world that takes Canada for granted is the U.S. Not sure why, but it seems to be apparent in most my readings from Americans, with exceptions though (i.e. Chris). I guess they just don't know what we do, or what we have done. It's not a fault, just lack of knowledge.
Anyway, off to search what started this off.

It warms my heart to see that we're all banding together to support one another's points of views. Truly one of the great things about our country and a testament to the characters of some of CKA's members.
Just an interesting note, I'm an paid on call firefighter in Surrey, and trying to become a career firefighter. It's amazed me the degree to which the professional firefighter here were supporting the FDNY, and in fact many of them travelled more than once to NY, on their OWN dimes to assist in the recovery efforts as well as participate in the funerals of recovered firefighters. This kind of bond is amazing, and it's an example of the kind of world it could be if people stopped being so selfish. There is no question that Canadians on the whole are a good people, warm and caring of others in the world.
I've been fortunate enough to be able to serve my country, half way through my 10th year, and I can tell you that as just a reservist, troops are chomping at the bit to get involved. After talking to friends in the Reg Force, they're even more keen to get going on activities outside our country to make the world feel Canada's presence on the world stage is as important as ever.
As nation of only 25 or so million people, MANY patriotic Canaidans, many of whom were not professional soldiers or aid workers have given their lives in defence not only of our country, but our WESTERN way of life. We help as much as we can, given the passive and spineless nature of our illustrious PM......The US has a brash and abrasive attitude generally towards the rest of the world, and in some ways they want us to be just another State, but in many ways they're right.......
Again you guys, so awesome there's a place to debate our subtle differences.......I'm all for a forum like that......I look forward to learning more!
