I love people who try to say it's a waste of money. It's branding, just like that which occurs with every other media outlet.
Just because they are government owned doesn't mean they shouldn't try to make themselves appealing to the mass market.Although subsidized, they still generate revenue and many people still watch them for Canadian content and programming.
It's not like, "hey, they spent money on a logo, we are all getting ripped off." In 2014, Cbc generated 474 Million in advertising which helped pay for the 810 Million in programming they provided, 790 million of which was Canadian content. I think most people are OK with giving other Canadians a leg up in the industry.
