TORONTO (CP) - The federal government needs to fix a failed film policy that has sold Canada's movie screens to the United States, actor Sarah Polley said Wednesday as she appeared before the Commons heritage committee.

"Television is the future of film," Polley, long an outspoken critic of domestic film policy, said in a news release. "Where Canadian film is available is at home, on cable, pay TV and on video and DVD . . . Start enforcing the Broadcasting Act and make financing, advertising and showing Canadian film part of broadcasters' licence renewal."

Director Don McKellar said Canadians really want to see domestic films, but can't find them.

"I'm proposing a direct solution, more room on theatre screens and more airtime on television for Canadian films," he said in the release
Polley has long been great about this and this is a godd idea...I just hope the theatre screens part is emphasized as well.
