Title says it all. I really would like to know what makes you proud to be Canadian. I'm 17, I live in Québec, so by definition I'm Canadian, but I have really never felt Canadian.

Anyway, there is a condition. You have to give reasons/explain why Canada Kicks Ass (in your opinion) WITHOUT demoting the United States in any way or ANY other country, AND WITHOUT USING QUÉBEC in ANY way.

I think this is going to be tough, because, apart the "free" healthcare system (which Americans who have seen it and how it works don't even want to get in the U.S.) I don't see much.

Peace Keeping (the best in the world)

Being able to proudly display the Canadian flag in ANY part of the world.

Being treated with respect because of that proudly displayed flag.

The underground railway led to Canada. We never had slavery.

You can use medical marijuanna for terminal illness and not be prosecuted and sent to jail, while being denied your medication and not dying because of it.

We can travel to Cuba if we want (and I want!)

I'll have to think about some more.......I'll come back later with them.

Speaking as someone who has had the privilage to experience both healthcare systems I personally prefer the Canadian one. It's just nice to know that in the event something tragic happened (that requires a long hospital stay) my family wouldn't be financially devestated. Seriously...even with insurance it's a possibility...and a scary one.
That aside the insurance costs are just skyrocketing. And it doesn't necessarily cover everything...although at the cost of it...it should.

As for the Americans not wanting the Canadian healthcare system. I think it's a combination of two things. First of all they are misinformed here about the system. They understand it to be substandard to the US with everyone waiting months just to have a check up. Plus they seem to think the prescription drugs we get are different and of poorer quality.
The second thing is the concept of "Socialized medicine" --Socialists...Isn't that like Communism? They won't touch anything that may have anythigng to do with communism...even though it doesn't.
Incidentally, I don't think the Canadian system is perfect either. We do have a problem with wait times for surgeries but for the most part I'd rather be seriously ill in Canada. (Knock on wood...don't want to tempt the fates...)

Maybe you never really wanted to "feel Canadian"

As a Canadian, I feel I am apart of something special. I am apart of a wonderful land and history, where I can think and do (well... :) as long as it is legal) as I please, without being persecuted.

I just love Canada. And if you live in Canada and dont love Canada as much as I, leave. Go somewhere better, Neverland.

We have wonderful and clean cities, and have so much space to "move around"

Our country is clean, peaceful, friendly etc. Find that anywhere else. Canada is our land. A little (well again...) piece of the world we can be proud to call home.

Peacekeeping- a waist of men and resources nine outa' ten times. Talk to a person who has served if they have done any PK tours they will tell you theres almost always stupid ROE's (the UN is famous for that). Peacekeepers are soldiers, they train for war, they train to defend themselves but lots of times they CANT because of some damn tecnecality...

We have these damn... Lib... Liber... I cant even say it I hate them so much, in office and they... n/m

Seems to me that the Canadians who took part in these operations have cause to take pride in their efforts :

I think peacekeeping as a concept is great and thats a great thing about canada.
:) :D :P
but i've got to ask the guy who started this why do we have to exclude Québec from our posts. Its another beautiful part of our country, with a history i'm proud to share in.
Bilingualism is something I'm proud of as a Canadian.

Vive le Canada unis pour éternité :!:
