Damn, one of my more colourful choices disappeared! Oh well, it only further expounded on his lack of self control lately. More meds needed I think!

I noticed he's been away for awhile. I've missed his froth-mouthed, diatribes.

Has he said anything particularly loopey lately?

I'm reluctant to follow his threads as I'm still traumatized by his constant threats to beat me up!

Just a quick question - what did this flamer do or say about our Forces? I've been gone for a tad (golf vacation in the south).

I'll let one of the others answer the question, but where did you go?

Awe a wittle thread just about me.

You should also ask, to be fair, how many are cons?

Has it ever occurred to you that the majority of military people in Canada are Conservatives Avro?

Maybe it has something to do with not supporting a party that cuts our funding, appoints bureaucrats to the top positions instead of soldiers, forces politically correct bullshit down our throats, sends our people up in ancient helicopters that have a tendency to fall out of the sky for the sake of political expediency, or disbands our finest regiments for the same reason.

I suggest you read a book like "Once a Patricia" about the PPCLI in the Second World War. There's a telling passage in there about how the Pats booed and shouted down Liberal Prime Minister Mackenzie King when he tried to address them in Italy in 1944.

You see, the troops, unlike the flat-faced civvy voters of Ontario, have always been able to see through Liberal bullshit.

Thanks for reminding me to call my father. I just did and asked him that very question. He said no. He said that more then 1/3 were Liberal but a true reflection that it was largely uniform across the political board with only a minority of soldiers actually taking a substantial interest in politics. He also said that many were simply against whatever party was in power when cuts were being made and remembers more then a few virulently anti-PC as well as those who were anti-Liberal. There might currently be more outspoken anti-liberals simply because they are in power again but all and all we do not have a "conservative" military.

Not likely. You can say what you want about Mulroney, but the PC's were good to the forces. Under Mulroney, we saw an increase in numbers after years of Trudeau's cuts, we saw new rifles, the re-introduction of separate uniforms, new helicopters (later cancelled by the Libs), etc.

I remember the 93 election and there weren't many guys voting Liberal. There still aren't.

I'm sorry but MCB is right on this point. I am currently working with about 2500 soldiers and 1/3 of Canada's Combat soldiers and everytime I here anything resembling a grumble on politics I tend to dig a little further. As far as I can tell you most (as in 9/10) are saying a great deal of bad things about the Liberal Gov't because they in the last 50 years have had the worst track record on cutting the military. They almost never said anything about Gomery or any of the other scandles. Why? It didn't affect there day to day job. The Liberal Gov'ts in the last 50 years have followed the same model. Promiss more money to the Military and then as the belt tightens the first one to take a cut is the military. There is a great deal of equiptment that very few people know has been bought and canceled. Or the number of upgrades to the existing equiptment that have been "Reschedualed" and when the time comes they push it back again. It is a track record that they have set in the last 50 years that the soldiers, airmen and sailors disagree with.

2Cdo

You hit the nail on the head. Avro is pompus, arogant and uninformed on all the issues that relate to us as soldiers.

Avro

Where did you pick you name. I sure hope that you didn't take it from A.V.Roe Canada. Cause you Sir (read Civvy) have absolutely no clue.

Cheers

The Conservatives were very loyal to the men and women in the Military when I was serving and they still are today. We could always rely on the pay raises in Apr and Nov...mind you it wasn't much, but it helped. As for the Liberals piss poor track record, they were never there for the Military when we really needed them. Look what happened to all the Military cutbacks over the years! I'm a happy Civilian now, and I will always support the Conservatives!

He said otherwise. He had more years in the service then you have been alive. I trust him and I don't trust you. 'nuff said.

I'm sure loads are grumbling. He said that the grumbling always went against the party in charge. The food and the gov't were always the targets. As for who has cut the military the most, the PC gov't was just as bad and they managed to put us so far in debt that the only way we can truly repair and re-equip the military would be to put us much farther in debt. They did us no favours.

Of course you already know that the last 50 years was not all under Liberal gov't and although I absolutely agree our military is always first up on the cut list it has been just as bad under cons the as Libs.

A whole thread dedicated to flaming... I think 2Cdo needs another medal, and I don't mean for Long Service.
