BTW we updated from the CF-101 Voodoo to the CF-18 a couple decades ago.

Nice seeing a Voodoo with full burners!

Well some of the QRA response (Quick Reaction Aircraft) scrambled to protect Canadian airspace are definitely not Canadian.
Interceptions by intruders in Canadian airspace (Atlantic) are routinely done by the Brits, Germans, Italians and Dutch (depending on who is at CFB Goose Bay). This has been done for years and nobody blinks an eye.......
It would be like having British or German cops patrolling our Arctic.
This has been done for years and nobody blinks an eye.......

I'd say letting anybody but Canadians police our airspace seems like giving up sovereignty anyway?

Sad isn't it? Not much you can do when the RCAF has only 80 CF-18s. :x

Goodbye papa, please pray for me
My helicopter's crashing in the sea.

The chorus runs:

We had joy, we had fun, we had Sea Kings in the sun
But the engines are on fire and the Sea Kings must retire.

No, it's not. The Plastic Bug takes a back seat compared to an F-15.

Why do you think the F15 is better than the F18? The F18 is nearly brand new which the F15 is defenatly not (deployed 1972)?

I guess it has more to do with it's purpose vs. cost. I think you get more bang for your buck with an F-16, although in Canada's case we were looking for a twin engine fighter/bomber. I don't know how many times in the last 20+ years we've had F-18's flying on one engine but that was a requirement when we were evaluating them. If I remember correctly the F-15 is the most expensive fighter aircraft to operate in the US service.

It's nothing to do with what my opinion is or what I think. It had nothing to do with cost or deployablility. You asked "Isn' t it the best north american fighter, you can get?" The answer is no, the F-15 Eagle (with the latest Block udates) is by far the best fighter in North America. The CF-18 (F/A-18) is a fighter/attack aircraft.

BTW the CF-18 Hornet is getting just as long in the tooth too. We bought them in '86(?) and the Yanks had deployed them prior to that so age can't be an issue.
