Yes, Canada needs to reconsider large purchases from the US too.
I know there isn't a kill switch on the F-35, but they can degrade its capabilities by withholding software updates, spare parts, and/or maintenance. IMHO, we should keep the F-35s we've already paid for, buy a few dozen Gripens, and join the GCAP 6th fighter project with the UK, Italy and Japan. Once that plane is ready around 2035 to 2040, the Gripens can go to the Snowbirds.
We should also reconsider the planned P-8A purchase from Boeing. Either buy from the Japanese or build our own maritime patrol aircraft. Bombardier's Global 6500 is a bit small, but we could probably outfit some Airbus frames with radar and sonobouys.
