I heard this evening that some band from the 70s called the Rubinoos is sueing Avril Lavigne for stealing their chorus... apparently they can't see the difference obvious artistic differences between her "Hey hey, you you, I wanna be your girlfriend" and their own "Hey hey, you you, I wanna be your boyfriend."

Yet to throw their hats into the ring are the Rolling Stones with their claim to "Hey hey, you you", or the Ramones, defending their "I wanna be your boyfriend."

I think the Stones and Ramones should just wait to see who wins the Avril/Rubinoos case, and then both should sue the ass off the winner and split the difference..

Yeah lyrics are similar, but Avril does it in a different syle.

There must be something to this because she's been accused of it a few times other than this. I read a story last week about Chantal Kreviazuk saying the same thing about some music she had wrote. She changed a few words in a song and claims she wrote it with someone else's song too.

After reading about this the other day I downloaded The Rubinoos "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" and while there seem to be SOME similarities (riffs and changes... even the lyrics) I dont think theres enuff to make a case.

Might have to play em both on Monday and see what everybody says...

mix them and see what it sounds like....prolly sound pretty cool if anything.....personally i think the Ramones 'I want to be your boyfriend' killz over anyone else mentioned here

The thing thats sets apart rock and roll apart from all music is timing timing changes repeated lyrics etc...

To the group whose song Suck your song is actually closer in production and sound to the Stones than Avril's piece of work.
Oh and where by chance would miss Lavigne in the year 2007 have even heard of this garage band and thier minor hit for the seventies... "Laughable Money grubbing Sue everyone Americans"
