Well, I like other bands too, such as Finger Eleven, Rob D.,Rob Zombie, Queens of the Stoneage, Godsmack, Nirvana, and thats just a few... :) But, I still enjoy Rammstein alot, and the fact that its German doesn't mean it isn't far from English, (Quick history lesson :) ) First off, the Angles, Saxons, Jutes and one other German tribe conquered England in the 4th century B.C.E. and brought their language with them. They then procceded to name it, Engel-land, Land of the Angels. And it is quite clear when listening to Rammstein to see the similarities in English and German (Heir Kömmt Die Sonne = Here comes the sun, Könnt ihr mich Sehen = Can you see me?, Könnt ihr mich Hören = Can you hear me?, Du Reichst So Gut= You look so good.) I know it doesn't really look like it resembles each other, but, if you know the proper pronounciation, it sounds very similair. Also, back then, they called the langauge they spoke Englisc, although it was pronounced the exact same. Now, i know there is alot I left out, (The Romans were in control of England for 300 years, then they left, and the Celtics took over, they spoke Gaelic, then the German Tribes conquered, They spoke german (DUH) then the Norse and then the French) Soi basically, english is just a mixture of a whole bunch of different languages, (Latin, Gaelic, German, French, (I don't know what the norse spoke)) but I'd say German has had the biggest effect on it. oh well, I think I'm lost now....

On my father's side, my great-great-great grandfather was born in Ireland in 1798, and my great-great-great grandmother was born in Scotland around the same time. My mothers side was from europe also. My grandfather was born in Czechoslavakia (that how to spell it?) and left when he was sixteen (his father fought and died for germany in the 2nd world war, unfortunatly) my grandmother was born in Canada but her ancestors came from Germany.

Rammstein was formed in 1993 by an assembly of factory-weary proletarians raised in East Germany. They took their name (adding an "m") from the location of a German tragedy where 80 people were hurt and killed as the result of a crash during an American Air Force flight show. The literal translation of "ram stein" is a battering ram made of stone. Word of Rammstein's horror romanticist blend of theatre and music spread like wildfire. Lead singer Till Lindemann would sing entire songs engulfed in flame from head to toe. The band's first album, Herzeleid (or Heartache), built on the grounds created by the band's live reputation. Scaling the German charts (and remaining there until the release of the second Rammstein LP some two years later), the album also introduced the band to the world outside of the Germany/Switzerland/Austria region. As Rammstein's second album, Sehnsucht (Longing), was released, the band was headlining throughout Europe to crowds of 10,000 to 30,000 people. Sehnsucht entered the German charts at number one immediately upon its release, and came very close to doing to the same in Austria and Switzerland. Within weeks, entries on other countries' charts had Sehnsucht rubbing elbows with Prodigy, Radiohead, and the Rolling Stones on Billboard's cumulative Eurochart. From there the fever spread, transcending any perceived language barrier. Somehow, the German language is integral to the Rammstein sound. ~ Ed Nimmervoll, All Music Guide

Myths of Rammstein

Till was a former Olympic Swimmer
Till never competed in the Olympics, although he was a former competitive swimmer in his early years.
They are Nazis because of their German vocals
Rammstein are not Nazis. They have no political affiliation with anyone whatsover.
They sing in German because they are German.
They are homosexual because they urinate on each other (or something to that effect)
Many people look at that "Bück dich" video where Till spills watered-down milk from a pipe (that looks like a penis) on Flake's rear end and assume they're gay.
However, that is just an act like anyone you see at a non-boring rock concert.
Most of the members are married (to women) and have had children.
They don't like making videos
They have produced eleven videos to this day: Du riechst so gut, Seemann, Rammstein, Du hast, Engel, Stripped, Du riechst so gut re-make, Sonne, Links 2 3 4, Ich will, Mutter.
Only two have really been shown on mainstream music television, and is probably why people think they don't make videos. Blame MTV for their unbalanced rotation of music videos.
"Du hast" means "you hate"
"Du hast" means "you have"
"Du hasst" means "you hate"
The "English version" of "Du hast" says it as "you hate" because it is a misinterpretation. The version is authentic. The translation, however, is not perfect. Translating German text to English is quite hard because of different grammatical features such as word order and verb inflections between the two languages.
In any case, the "You Hate" song is what caused the 1999 Columbine tragedy
Just because the two Columbine killers allegedly listened to bands like Rammstein and KMFDM, it doessn't mean that their music was what caused them to run amok and kill people. If this was the case, there would be millions of people killing others.
On another note, when we hear of murderers, we don't say they're murderers because of their musical interests. Rather, it is how the environment treats a person. If that person is ostracized and/or mistreated by the environment, then that would be a more credible reason for a person's violent behaviour. [/align]

i am a sucker for cultural stuff in rock and roll/metal music. no matter what culture etc.
for example i love SOAD and how they have zithers and sitars and stuff like that in their metal.
it is really cool how one can fuse rock music with cultural instruments...
