I love the hats, too... I can imagine how distracting they'd be when someone's standing in front of you

I myself attend a few DCI events yearly, including the championships and the solos. DCI is made up of drum and bugle corps, but some of the drumming talent is unbelieveable. There aren't too many shows any more that really showcase the drum line throught the shows, although most have really nice solos in their shows. The real talent you see at the individuals though, especially when you watch the kids going at the fastest drummer of the year pad, fucking amazing.
Also, I was sorta miffed that those Top Secret dudes didn't have any tenors (quads), I love the sound of quads, but I guess beggers can't be choosers.

I'm too tired and lazy to pretty the link up, sorry. But yeah, there's nice drumming throughout the whole piece, although the drum features around 4:30
Also, this was like half way through the season, it was a helluva lot cooler at finals...
[spoiler/] and yes, those people are running and jumping off tables...[spoiler]
And yes, that's the band that performed at the 1996 Olympics.
Oh and all the people in that corps are under 21

Can probably find other neat just by searching DCI... If you wanna listen to some nice music search for Phantom Regiment (Hell, just download some of it from limewire or whatever) but only if you like classical music.

Those Swiss are nothing but awesome 8) true rudimental drumming at it's finnest. I've seen the clip before and was blowen away. Just thinking of all the time it took to put that piece together.

I use to march drum Corps - Drumline (tymp/kettledrum) way back in my youth out of Edmonton & the Corps' name was, The 1st Canadian Regiment now defunked. We had two instructors who aged out, one marched snare for the Blue Devils & the other snare for Black Watch ... which years they marched , I'm not so clear on ... but their corps at the time were top 12 in Div. 1 @ DCI.

I remember clearly the evening at a jazz club (Jasper Ave. Edm.) - second set (our instructors made us go :) ) to watch The late & great Buddy Rich & it was set up, so that we could talk & ask him gazillion questions about drumming after the club was closed. The highlight of the evening & nobody knew, but Neil Peart was there to see Buddy 8O ... perhaps Rush was due to have a concert  OH the memories !!

I strongly recommend going to see a DCI event.

I second this! It's one of the most amazing shows out there, especially if you can make it out to the finals.

As for Buddy Rich, he's one of the few drummers that I wish i would have had to chance to see in concert. Got a few of his CDs, but I imagine being there, seeing that talent in action would be absolutely amazing.

I was named after a friend of my parents who marched in the 1985-87 Blue Devils snare line, I recieved not even a spec of his skillz :-(

ahhhh i love the sound of those double snares!!! but it's not the same without a huge pipe band to go along with them!!!

i haven't ever had a very high opinion of tenor drummers....they're there pretty much to look pretty....most of the time they're too busy twirling or something and when they do actually hit the drums you can't ehar them over the pipes, snares and bass drums. they do look cool and no pipe band is complete without them nonetheless.... and you need a drum major too with cool mace skills!!!

My dad was a snare drummer in few great Cdn pipe bands, dropped out of it when they didn't give them the world championship 'cuz they were Cdn.

That type of tenor drummer can actually be useful in all situations. In the forementioned year my dad's band had two differently tuned bass drums (an idea taken from Drum Corps). The Scottish bands petitioned against this untraditional move so they had one of their tenors tune to take the place of the second bass. But you've really got to listen and watch them really closely to really appreciate the talent that many of them have.

I love Drum Corps style tenors (quads). The speed that some of those kids have and the groves that you can create, especially with many of the quads actually having 6 drums in the kit. Ooo, I get goose bumps just thinking about some of the tenor lines I've seen.

But snares beat 'em all... They are after all at the top of the hierarchy of the drum line!

I myself am a trumpet player... suck at it though, wanna get into something a little bigger, mainly so I have a mouthpiece that fits my lips. That and the fact that great Euphonium, Baritone and Contra lines can make me happy in pants...

POWAAHHHH! UNLIIIMITED POWAHHH!!!
