Canada must stop funding Palestinian terrorismby

Alastair Gordon, President, Canadian Coalition for Democracies
Monday, September 19, 2005

Toronto, Canada - Saturday, 17 September 2005 - On September 15, Prime Minister Paul Martin announced from New York that Canada will give another $24.5 million to the Palestinian Authority (PA). This past May, Mr. Martin announced $12.2 million in aid during the visit to Canada of PA President Mahmoud Abbas, bringing the total Canadian aid to the Palestinians to $310 million since 1993.

“President Abbas came to office promising (1) to disarm Palestinian militants, (2) to end incitement in schools and media, and (3) to end glorification of suicide bombing,” said Alastair Gordon, President of the Canadian Coalition for Democracies (CCD). “On that understanding, Prime Minister Martin promised another $12.2 million in May of this year."
Since receiving Canadian tax dollars, President Abbas has reneged on all his commitments. Specifically, (1) PA Foreign Minister Nasser al-Kidwa publicly declared in June that the PA will not disarm Hamas and other terrorist groups under its jurisdiction; (2) Not a single textbook denying the existence of Israel and preaching the destruction of “the Zionist entity” has been removed or revised; and (3) Abbas himself, speaking to a group of high school students and educators in Gaza, glorified suicide bombing when he declared, “What has been achieved here [in Gaza] is due to the martyrs.”

“When money is given on the understanding that certain commitments to peace will be undertaken, the open declaration by the recipient that those commitments will not he honoured should mean, at a minimum, that funding would stop,” said Gordon. “Instead, our Prime Minister rewards bad faith with another $24.5 million from Canadian taxpayers.”

“It is not enough to pretend that the money is allocated to specific projects, because money is fungible,” added Gordon. “If Canadians are paying to build a highway, those funds are now freed up for war against Israel, in keeping with the PA’s constitutional governing charter and repeated declarations by PA spokespeople.”

On behalf of Canadians, CCD is urging Paul Martin to inform President Abbas that he will receive no more Canadian funding until he meets his commitments. Canadians expect that the Palestinian Charter will finally be amended to remove Article 9 that declares “Armed struggle is the only way to liberate Palestine”, Article 20 that states “Jews [do not] constitute a single nation with an identity of its own”, and other articles that call for the destruction of Israel through violence (See PLO Charter below).

“The constitutional Charter of the PA is available on the web for Paul Martin to read,” concluded Gordon. “Instead, our Prime Minister has chosen to purchase international approval with the blood of Israelis, while refusing to tell Canadians what benefit has been derived from nearly one third of a billion tax dollars paid to Arafat and Abbas.”

That's ridiculous... isn't there some sort of gaurantee or contract ensuring they substantiate their promises?

Can a government sue another government?

I was pissed off when I read that the Palestinians recently looted and destroyed all the high tech greenhouses that were purchased from the Isrealis for millions of dollars and donated to the Palestinian people so they would have some employment and a very lucrative industry.....

It all comes about because of a terrible lack of security and continuing power struggles amongst the Palestinians. They can't seem to make peace with each other let alone Isreal.

They(Palestinians) never miss a chance to miss a chance. It was only when the Jews returned in full force that the desert bloomed (and ocassionally boomed).

Well I don't think the Gov't should be giving those people one dime. Pay a builder or a construction crew but to the PA is Martini out of his mind. Isarat played the people for years, looking like he was one of them until he died and they found out he was a millionaire X10. Thank France for holding his stash for his wife to take trips to the fashion district.

All i gotta say is the next attack on Isreal may be the last.

Sure. Canadian taxpayers might even have standing to sue the PA in a Canadian court. If turned down, they might even be able to sue in an American court, where it's much easier to get into court.

A government is usually immune from lawsuits unless it consents to the action, but that can be overcome when, as here, there is an explicit contract or in other ways.

Of course, the problem is enforcing the judgment.

But given the embarassment such a suit would cause, it might influence the PA's actual actions, and achieve the goals sought anyway.

Yeah, but the tanks have only killed a protestor from America. The purpose of the tanks is not to kill unsuspecting victims but to burden the family of terrorists and make would-be terrorists think twice about being a worthless POS.

So they are smarter, more progressive terrorists. Maybe if the palestinians didn't destroy everything good that comes their way, they would have their own tanks. And besides, it's not like their Arab brothers are giving them anything more that Automatic weapons and RPG's and Mortars and semtex&C4. There is probably a reason for that, I'm thinking.

Yes I see them protecting their people. Next rocket aimed at Israel will cost the PA more then a couple martyrs, Israel gave them what they wanted now it’s up to them, and I think the Israelis have outsmarted the Palestinians on this one.

Avro Avro:
I gues we will just ignore the 75 million the U.S. gives in aid to the Palestinians while at the same time they give Isreal 2.6 billion in direct aid and another 3 billion in indirect aid. Sounds fair to me....

The weak find ways to fight back.

If you want to see a good movie that is very fair on this conflict, watch "death in Gaza" it's very good, but incredibly sad.

Saw it. I loved the part where the 40YO men (Too chicken shit to show their faces) were brainwashing the 10YO kids. Great stuff.

Weapons pour into Gaza

By Ryan Jones
September 18th, 2005

Israel's worst fears regarding the withdrawal from Gaza appeared to be coming true Sunday as Arab terrorists continued to import large quantities of arms into the volatile coastal strip.

In its morning broadcast, Israel Radio cited security officials as saying thousands of guns and anti-tank missiles had been brought into Gaza since the completion of the IDF's pullout last Monday. This was despite purported efforts by Egyptian and “Palestinian” forces to seal the border.
Israel Radio Arab Affairs Correspondent Avi Yissakharov noted that drug and arms smugglers were blowing holes in the concrete and steel Gaza-Egypt border at will.

Officials were most concerned by unconfirmed reports that terror groups had managed to smuggle “balance breaking” weapons such as anti-aircraft and medium range surface-to-surface missiles into Gaza.

According to the online news and information service Debkafile, sourcingunnamed military and intelligence sources, the weapons smuggled in include:
3,000 automatic rifles, most of which are destined for Hamas, and which give the organization a total of 10,000 Kalashnikovs, enough for thousands of new recruits.

Hundreds of AT-23 Sagger anti-tank missiles.
SAM-14 Strela anti-aircraft missiles - quantity unknown.
Improved Kassam surface-to-surface missiles. Their range is 13km or 18km, depending on whether Israeli or Egyptian intelligence evaluations are accepted. The shorter-range can reach Ashkelon, the longer one can menace the southern suburbs of the port town of Ashdod, Ashkelon, Kiryat Gat, Kiryat Malachi (where the Israeli President's private home is located), Ofakim, Netivot and prime minister Ariel Sharon's Sycamore Ranch.

Land mines of different types - quantity unknown.
More than 250 tons of explosives.

In addition, an estimated 500-700 armed and highly-trained men have infiltrated Gaza through Sinai to boost the ranks of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

Sources in the IDF's Southern Command told Ynet they believe Hamas will also take advantage of the situation to widen its front against Israel by sending cells into Sinai and infiltrating through the long Egypt-Negev border.
Shortly after noon Sunday, PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas declared the border had finally been sealed and the chaos in southern Gaza ended. Israelis were skeptical, having heard a similar announcement days earlier.
Later in the day, a senior PA official told the Associated Press the Gaza-Egypt border crossing in the town of Rafiah would be reopened within 48 hours, despite Israel's protests.

US sources said Washington had remained purposely mum on the issue, not wanting to publicly criticize either Egypt or the PA, according to Middle East Newsline.
The Bush Administration determined Egypt and the PA need more time for troop deployment.

“It's not something that begins and ends on one day. This is a process,” said State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli last week.
IDF officials, however, told Ynet that “if the Egyptians wanted to, they would completely seal off the border within an hour.”

Israel managed, with hostile forces on either side, to control that same border day in and day out for over 30 years
