I say charge him, it was worth it. And if he's having trouble scraping up the dough I'd be happy to send him a few hundred.

I didn't realize that there was this law.
It would suggest that, were my cousins from Britain visiting and were they to suggest that I vote one way or another in our election, they would be breaking the law.
Fascinating...
I don't disagree with the law, in concept, but in reality, it seems pretty hard to implement effectively.

othello othello: It would suggest that, were my cousins from Britain visiting and were they to suggest that I vote one way or another in our election, they would be breaking the law.
I don't think it would apply to persons speaking in private conversation. It likely only applies to people who have access to mass media.
Agree with the law or not, it does exist. If they don't intend to use it, or find it unenforceable, then they should get rid of it.
Besides, Moore should be careful what he wishes for. In Canada, a film like his about Paul Martin, or any PM, would likely be deemed illegal. He wants the US to be more like Canada - he better enjoy his freedom of speech while he can.

Looks like someone else is considering charging Moore
$1: The family of U.S. Air Force Maj. Gregory Stone was shocked to learn that video footage of the major's Arlington National Cemetery burial was included by Michael Moore in his movie "Fahrenheit 9/11."
Stone was killed in March 2003 by a grenade that officials said was thrown into his tent by Sgt. Hasan K. Akbar, who is on trial for murder.
It's been a big shock, and we are not very happy about it, to say the least," Kandi Gallagher, Stone's aunt and family spokeswoman, tells Washington Times reporter Audrey Hudson.
We are furious that Greg was in that casket and cannot defend himself, and my sister, Greg's mother, is just beside herself," Gallagher said. "She is furious. She called him a 'maggot that eats off the dead.'"
The movie, described by critics as political propaganda during an election year, shows video footage of the funeral and Stone's fiancee, Tammie Eslinger, kissing her hand and touching it to his coffin.
The family does not know how Moore obtained the video, and Gallagher said they did not give permission and are considering legal recourse.
She described her nephew as a "totally conservative Republican" and said he would have found the film to be "putrid."
"I'm sure he would have some choice words for Michael Moore," she said. "Michael Moore would have a hard time asking our family for a glass of water if he were thirsty."

$1: Rev if your worried about Cellucci and co. start your own petition or what not.
We shouldn't be enforcing laws by petition. If a law is to be enforced it should be enforced equally. That means that any one Canadian can launch a complaint and expect to have it investigated and charges laid if there are grounds for charges to be laid.
Petitions like this stink of attempted political interference in the legal system. Don't like a movie? Have the producer arrested. Don't like a book? Have the author arrested. Don't like a song? Have the singer arrested.

Point taken but this is a start.

It's not a start though, Pole...it's a bad precedent. I don't like Rush Limbaugh and think he should be taken off the air, possibly fed to rabid coyotes with a tolerance to opiates. I'm outspoken about that, but I don't petition the government to bring Rush to my house so I can nail him to a tree.
What this petition is, more than anything else, is somebody asking the courts to decide that Moore be brought to his house so he nail nim to his tree.

Adam, do you think its fair that if your parked illegally or speeding or violating any number of Canadian laws ...that you have to pay a fine, but because someone is a celebrity or in power, or rich, that when they violate a law, that they don't pay a fine. I'm sure that if Moore new about the law, he would not have broken it. I'm also sure that he would be more than willing to pay the fine if he is charged with it. You cannot have a law for the rich and a law for the poor. The law must be equally applied to everyone.

It is a bad law though, Zen. It is virtually unenforcable in its present form and will not stand up to a serious challenge in court because it violates the charter.
In this case it being used for purely political purposes....Some on the far right would like nothing more than to silence Moore. That has very little to do with what he said about Harper. It has to do with him a prominent voice from the left, something they do not want to tolerate.

Just becasue it is a 'law' doesnt mean you should obey it. There are dum laws.
In 1930;s Germany it was the law that jews had to wear the star
In the USA, you could legaly own a slave.
In China religion is against the law
Right here in Newfoundland you can’t talk on your cell phone while driving, because its dangerous. But. You can smoke while driving, eat while driving and fumble through your CDs. So I will talk on my cell phone while driving until the RCMP shoots me dead.

That's not the point I'm making Adam, I'm talking about equal treatment.
Citizen A is poor and breaks a law ( even if it is unjust) He bears the full weight of the legal system.
Citizen B is rich and famous and breaks a law, but may not even be charged because of his celebrity.
That is the same kind of unfairness, the laws you pointed out exude. Your examples are persecution because of their racial or religious status. Here you are allowing someone's socio-economic status, priority over a legal system. That's not fair either. The law must be applied equally to everyone.

Moore the hypocrite strikes again:
From a CNN interview:
$1: Foreman: Because politics in this country comes down to a choice between a Democrat and a Republican in most places, why not endorse John Kerry?
Moore: Because I don't think it's my job as a filmmaker to tell people how to vote.
Geez, he didn't seem to have problem doing it here.
