Here is more proof that the CONservatives in Canada don't have a clue and want Canada to be the 51st state since they parrot everything the Republicans do and say. They can't drop their pants and bend over fast enough to please the Republicans.

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national ... e1214.html

If these idiots knew aything about the original definition of what a marriage was they would shut up. The bible, which they love so much, defines 8 to 11 different forms of "traditonal" marriage alone.

For most of history a marriage was nothing more than a contract for the purchase of the bride. She had no say at all in the matter. Love didn't enter into it at all. It was a form of slavery since until even up tp the early 20th century a woman wasn't considered to even be a person who could own any property at all, she was property. This is just an example of the "traditional values" they want to bring back as well.

Also, churches don't perform marriages, they perform weddings since a wedding is a religious ceremony while the marriage is a civil contract instead. You don't need a wedding to be legally married. Anyone can perform a wedding.

Another interesting fact, weddings are not even a Christian tradition either, it is a pagan ritual.

Just another case of the radical Christian right trying to jam their beliefs down our throats. Why would it possibly matter to them who marries who?

Exactly. It does nothing to hurt them at all. That is unless they are borderline homosexuals who are just looking for an excuse to leave their wives to run off to marry the man of their dreams. :)

The biggest threat to marriage is divorce yet you don't hear them harp(er)ing about protecting it from that by banning divorces.

No, the CONservatives just want to make Canada as backwards as the US is.

Marriage has been a contract between two men longer than anything else. There is the husband (The Buyer) The oldest male in a woman's life (The Seller) for the purchase of the woman (The Property in question).

That's not entirely fair. There are women politicians too, have to be fair and mention the fact that they might want to run off with the woman of their dreams...

Godz46 Godz46:
Biggest economy in the world, strongest military in the world, people in your bloved Cuba are risking their lives just getting there. How would you describe that as "backwards"?

Their economy is failing in a big way. They are outsourcing most of their manufacturing and techical jobs overseas. 81% of the jobs creating under Bush were in the service sector at minimum wage level. Their military did nothing to protect them. The US is backwards in regards to education, health care, etc. They consistently rank quite low. Having a big military doesn't make you great either. It did nothing to stop the 9/11 attack. They ignore important issues and instead concentrate on unimportant things like if people of the same-sex want to express their love by getting married.

Actually he's calling for a free vote or a national referensum. The only people trying to jam their beliefs down people's throats are the homosexual lobby.

There is no such thing. You base your belief on nothing more than ignorance and fear of what you don't understand. A classic CONservative if I ever saw one. You'd sell out your country at the first opportunity. You are defending the indefensible.

I wasn't just speaking of politicans, but CONsevatives in general. Many of them actually believe that one can be made gay. :) Next thing you know they'll want a referendum to declare that the Moon is made of green cheese. Remember Stockwell Day and his idea that if a number of Canadians wanted a referendum that they should have one and than, was it Rick Mercer, got enough signatures together to call a referendum to have him change his name to Doris Day. :) He was the biggest homophobe of them all.

What goes in in the bedrooms of consenting persons is none of the government's business and it is also none of the government's business if consenting persons want to get married either.

As a whole this doesn't affect anyone else so a referendum is meaningless in this situation. It is not as if the gays want to force everyone to be gay like the Christians want to force everyone to be Christian. The only "agenda" here is that of the Christian Reich.

These CONservatives get all upset when the government wants to help with jobs and health care, and the like, but don't mind it when the government helps them impose their religious beliefs on everyone. The only reason why they would object is on religious grounds. It is perfectly clear that they don't know what a marriage actually is.

Or debt control...

Or interest rate control...

The Roman Empire fell and it too had the most powerful economy and military but it collapsed from within. The US can share in this same fate by following the same path and it will reap the same result.

Actually what he's doing is trying to force the government into invoking the notwithstanding clause because the courts have made their decision. He's doing that because he and most of his supporters and far-right Christian radicals who want to force everybody to be just like them.

Yes, there are many parallels between the US and the Roman Empire. Both rotted from within.
