If my grandmother, has to wait 8 months for an MRI, yeah its a mess.
I wonder how fast diseases/tumors spread in 8 months.

These politicians that are pro-health care I gurantee you don't wait 8 months they get one the next day guranteed.

I wouldn't say its nextday treatment but i'm sure it is considerably sooner than people not a part of politics. It does stink that our healthcare system has come to this. but is there any possibility of finding a solution for it??

for most politicians it would be nextday or even sameday treatment guaranteed.

The soloution, now hold on to your shorts. Is a 2 tiered system. I insure my house, my car , my life. Let me insure my health.

I don't see what Kleins complaining about. How long ago did he state this? Do we not have a huge surplus now? Perhaps he should increase health care funding instead of buying me a new playstation.

Health care is expensive no matter how you pay for it. Right now my province is paying less than 10% of GDP on it. American spend 14% of there GDP on healt care and 20-30% of there population is excluded!

So in conclusion if we spend 11 or 12% of our GDP on our public health care system I'm pretty sure that our situation would change for the better.

But of course the people who want to make money on our back will alway say that there way is the best. So i'm asking them to back up there claim that a private system would be more cost effective.

The bureacrats generally hope 8 months is long enough for the problem to pass away.

I recall the then-Minister for Health Canada going to the Mayo Clinic in the USA to get his Hodgkins treated some years ago. He went first-class on his own treatment. :?

Bodah wants to insure himself. Cool. But what happens if you can't afford it anymore for some unknown reason? Are you gonna accept medical services for your kids and family that are of less quality than if you had money? No, you're not. So what do you do?

Canada's Universal Healthcare system, imperfect as it may be in certain situations, happens to be one of the world's foremost expressions of socio-political fairness and egalitarian equity. If you haven't seen parts of the rest of the world, it's perhaps forgiveable to bitch and moan. In a very large segment of the rest of the world, when you get sick the wait period is LIFE, however long that turns out to be of course being dependent upon just how sick you are.

I just can't believe how many spoiled, selfish and self-absorbed people there are in this country who question something that 80% of the rest of the world doesn't have a hope in hell of getting for themselves or their children...if they heard these arguments they'd think we were insane.

Agreed, we do seem to bitch a lot.

What irks me is the rabid waste our health care is subjected to.

If ol' King Ralph would charge appropriate royalties for oil and gas he would be able to easily fund a public health care system in Alberta. But nope, for Ralph, if it's public it doesn't work and everything must be free market. The system is broken, but nobody is doing what's necessary to fix it.

I blame everyone. The politicians for politicking instead of fixing the system, the Canadian people for being fucktards and not electing worthy representatives and then not applying enough pressure to have themselves heard. I blame those who take their kids to the hospital when they so much as sneeze. I blame the fact that some operations gain hospitals more funding than others so there is a decrease in service. Basically, people abuse the system and then wonder why it isn't working anymore. Governments cut funding and expect everything to keep going smoothly. Hell, even when funding is increased there are news stories about the funds being spent inefficiently or wasted. Corruption and buearucracy go hand in hand and Canada has far too much of both.

Be careful not to throw out that baby with that bathwater. The healthcare system has suffered under Martin as Fiance minister since he started in 1995 dropping fed responsibility from 50%-50% between federal and the provinces to 15% and lower. He has since increased the funding from the fed but the damage has been done.

That damage is how he managed the 8 (and likely as many as 12-15) federal surpluses. One must not assume that increased funding by the feds are out of the question anymore. Now the feds will be increasing spending in all areas that were retreated from in health and education (that go hand in hand). Major reforms for the integration of skilled foreign and domestic labour are also in the works. I suspect the other boot has not dropped in this election campaign and won't till January, expect a major suprise then.
