BartSimpson BartSimpson:

I have thought about immigration and minimum wage for 19 years now and actually have a 35 point plan to tightening both. The ideas have been circulated in public and have been well received and polished up. I have all party back bench support for this as a result and the Liberals have sent it to their policy committee. The present leaders have panned the ideas so nothing is happening. These leaders may soon be gone. It's always of interest to me to see how skeptics like BartSimpson will react as a test of broader interest. I have an unpublihed book about all this, particular the public reaction, but this needs publicity to make it worth publishing.

The West is gutting it's middle class by moving manufacturing overseas. Means that there are a few jobs at the high end and lots of low income service jobs.

Now Andy, to be truthful, isn't that what Thatcher did in the U.K.? We know how well that turned out.

Andy, did you not read my post about manufacturing technologies that are 'democratizing' the industry? imo, we will be seeing a slow and gradual return of manufacturing jobs, when the cost of labour and cost of manufacturing infrastructure becomes less relevant.

So we have here on minimum wage
Grandpapa saying
That the mutt down at the store can’t make change,
That hard work is rewarded,
And that the family doesn’t understand properly.
He asks “Why does the government have to tax old people anyway”
And when questioned about good jobs concludes
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
That’s Conservatism in Practice today, conservatism in the vernacular.

Is it?

You ought to see these kids struggle to grasp why I've handed them $23.13 for a bill totaling $7.38

After I explain it to them they look at me in amazement and typically say something along the lines of "You mean you did that in your head?"

This actually happened yesterday when I was buying a pair of pants. The stupid kid pushed the $3.13 back at me and just wanted to enter the $20 on the cash register. I insisted she enter the $23.13 and she was near flabbergasted that my change was $15.75

I got a pair of black Dockers on clearance at JC Penney's. The pocket on the rear was missing a button and thus the markdown - I've already replaced the button.
