In democracies everything ultimately rests with the good sense of the majority of the voters. Fortunatley this has proved reliable. Often the actual leaders have some idiocyncric ideas and often they will miss events, the history of the times. The people were well ahead of the leaders on the national deficit, for instance. On the political spectrum theres extreme ideas on either side but the middle is remarkably solid. The court of public opinion is trustworthy. This seems to be the essence of democracy. End of rant.

While this political system is not perfect it is the best yet.

Despite giving Ontario the BOOB RAE government and recently re-installing McSquinty.......

Here in Canada we have a very opinionated political class no doubt and the fact that we have many political parties with a wide spectrum of ideas, represents the diversity and strength of our democracy (much more than the United states for example). However we have very close ties to America, we do a lot of trade with them (2 billion US per day) and we socially emulate them in many ways. While I believe that people should be connected to one another especially when we are neighbors, I also believe that as Canadians we must be cautious and put much more emphasis on the political/economic/philosophical education of our population especially starting with our youngest, most impressionable and/or naive among us. If we don't invest in such things, then there will always exist those who will fill in the gap in order to win over our minds and manufacture our consent for whatever reason. The best investment any nation can make is in its own people and our democracy will reflect that guaranteed!
