Here's the ideal liberal tax plan: A 100% income tax.

That way they can take EVERYTHING you have and when they give you some of your own money back they'll expect you to say 'Thank you' for the government's generosity. :x

What do you want services or no taxes. No taxes = no schools, no roads, no health care, no .......

We need greater gov't efficiency with our money.

In British Columbia, a "green" tax applies to the purchase of lead batteries weighing more than 2 kg and to the purchase of new tires with a unit price in excess of $30 at the rate of $5 per battery and $3 per tire. This is what is usually referred to as the "enviro fee." I don't think anyone else pays this.

Thats pretty good for BC. I'd agree with specific taxes like that (ie enviro, health) as long as the money went for what they were entended and not into general funds like the gas tax does.

I'd prefer to be left alone. Let the government do only what people could not do for themselves privately. Otherwise it becomes a nanny-state with cradle-to-grave welfare like in Europe...the downside of which is an overbearing bureaucracy that controls more and more of your day-to-day actions.

I'll take the freedom to fail over a comfortable life in a velvet-lined cage.

DerbyX: Do you recall seeing a news bit about the increase of our bottle/container fee's? We had a large jump in deposit fees and it was done by the recycling companies, with no consultation or government involvement.
It's nickels & dimes but it adds up and I'd like to see how much that all amounts to.

ridenrain;

Is that for BC or all of Canada? I don't recall seeing that but have noticed some of the beer prices fluctuating but some went up and some went down? I wouldn't like private companies to be able to charge fee's like that without some gov't control. They will just use it for greater profit?

BartSimpson;

I respect that POV. Would you want tool fee's at all bridges and highways? Would you want a total user fee system for all schools & hospitals? I'm for the Gov't leaving me alone but I actually prefer to pay a little extra for certain conviences such as being able to go to any hospital/clinic/DR. office and just give them my healthcard and not worry about being able to make payments. I would prefer to have no tolls at all on any roads or bridges. Again it comes down to personal preference. I do believe that in Canada were are over governed and there is a lack of gov't efficiency with our money which causes many of our problems. At the very least a minimal gov't control and more privatization should counter that.

In Quebec, there is a tax on new tires (3$/tire), intended to cover the recycling fees.
