Don't you understand? It's all in how you phrase something that makes it so... It makes those who wouldn't normally support defending our borders with, well, force squeemish to label something as it is so they'd just as soon call it by a nicer, friendlier and definately more P.C. label. It's more inclusive that way. Remember, we're a nation of nice, polite Canadians.

The US border guards carry guns.

It was funny, last year at a small border crossing in BC (the kids didn't have their own passports, so we were not allowed to cross the US border), we were there, Canadian Guards were just sitting in their booths, drinking coffee, and the US guards were practising their shooting in the woods. We were on foot, we had parked the car in Canada (so to speak ) so they came walking to us, asking what we wanted, because now we were so close, they needed to work, or at least stop shooting

Well, to be partisan I shouldn't criticize a Liberal senator. Most Liberal senators do a very good job. But there is one case I have to disagree.

This is why I emphasized that we don't have border guards, we have customs collectors. The guy who said our customs collectors are spending too much time collecting customs, is just stupid. Of course that senate committee also recommended "Accelerate the move to arm border guards", which is contrary to Liberal party policy. There were Conservative senators on the committee as well; perhaps that explains it.
