That's the horror of mental illness. No matter how good things apparently are on the outside, it means nothing when all you feel like is broken glass on the inside. And that's not wimpy touchy-feely "feel" either like you hear from the genuine snowflake types, not when depression is turning into a uncontrollable panicky dread just from being alive.
Apparently he hanged himself, like Robin Williams did, in the hotel room bathroom. I'm expecting now to hear something along the lines of a really bad health diagnosis that might have made him choose to end it or, more likely, a history of family depression or pattern of suicides.
Exactly. It was, for him, just his time.
I've known a few people who have chosen this same method.
