$1:
The event has become a pilgrimage for die-hard Poe fans, some of whom travel hundreds of miles. About three dozen stood huddled in blankets during the overnight cold Tuesday, peering through the churchyard's iron gates hoping to catch a glimpse of the figure known only as the "Poe toaster."

Hmmm, I think I see what the problem is. The person wanted to be anonymous, not be a frickin' circus sideshow. Some people don't know when to leave well enough alone.

Plus it's gone on for 60 years, likely whoever was doing it has passed on.

Well, it could be like a secret society where one person passes on the rose/booze duties to another who they recruit. That would be more in the spirit of Poe. Well, sort of (maybe if the roses were black?).

Yes Q, it could be, but that's reaching and if it was the case then the tradition would have continued
