$1:
The Montreal area has been complaining about its outdated infrastructure for years, but residents will surely spare some of their whinging for this newly-paved road.
Stare hard at the photo above and you will notice that there is a massive hydro pole protruding inelegantly from the middle of that highway.
The Canadian Press reports that "communication problems" are being blamed for this ridiculous snafu, located on a provincial highway east of Montreal.
Obviously it takes three shades of stupid to make something like this happen. The mistake reportedly occurred due to miscommunication between Quebec's power utility, its transportation authority and the contractor that, albeit skillfully, erected a hydro pole in the centre of a highway.

We hate to ask, because it's kind of a touchy subject at the moment, but... there's no way we could put the mob back in charge of these things, is there?

That's so messed up, I don't know where to start. A hydro pole in the middle of a road......imagine driving that road at night!?!?

Great idea. Wood is one hell of alot cheaper than cement for highway dividers. [B-o]

The picture is much different than the first one I saw. That one was taken from the other direction and showed the pole not quite in the middle of the two lanes and there were no traffic cones around it. All they had were a reflective boards on the pole and the painted lines.
See that's what you get when you don't bribe the right people there.

It's a whole different article. When it was said the link was dead, I had no problem, so I copy/pasted the story...

Yeah that the picture I saw the first time. How would anyone think that it was normal to leave it like that or even spend the money and time to pave around it?

You'd think they would at least put some temporary jersey barriers around it to deflect the traffic so no one runs right into the thing. In Alberta it would cost around 2500 dollars to do something like that but I guess in Quebec the same work would probably cost 10 times more by the time you finish accounting for the mobs cut and all the bribes that would be needed for the municipal permits.

Unfortunately it doesn't only happen in Quebec. When the Colville rd intersection was revamped in Esquimalt, there were light/power poles that weren't removed and paved around. Slight difference in that they weren't in ther middle of the road but on the side of the road but could still hamper driving.
